The Ship Museum
Established since 1985 in an old cannerie, the ship museum of Douarnenez today exhibits an unprecedented collection of old rigs, coasters, fishing sailing boats and amateur sailing boats. All in all, a total of 200 items, 75 of which come from the Breton coasts. Since its creation, the museum also shelters "the Workshops of Hell" where young carpenters undergoing training build replicas of the original boats exposed in the museum. A specially fitted out dock in Port-Rhu displays traditional sailing ships in their natural environment. Douarnenez, first harbour-museum in Europe, constitutes the first link in a network of comparable sites which will soon see daylight in other regions of the Atlantic Arc.
