Pacific Islands Radio

About Me

Welcome! Greetings, Mauri and Talofa! I'm Jane Resture and I was born in Hull Island (Orona), Phoenix Group, Republic of Kiribati. My father is Polynesian of Tuvaluan/English/French extraction and my mother is Micronesian from Onotoa, one of the atolls of the Republic of Kiribati, as well as the Caroline Islands. They have now made the Solomon Islands (Melanesia) their home. I travelled extensively throughout the islands of Oceania when I was very young and I developed a deep appreciation and love for our unique, sensitive and harmonious Pacific Island music of Micronesia, Polynesia and Melanesia. Pacific Islands Radio has been introduced in order to facilitate the promotion of island music to a worldwide audience. This was undertaken as a consequence of a foreseen need to allow the musical component of island heritage to be made available to a wider audience. It is a feature of Pacific Islands Radio that it does allow our music to be listened to and appreciated by people worldwide in particular friends of Oceania who have a love and appreciation of our music in addition to our own Pacific Island people, wherever they may be, and who can now listen to island music from their home islands via the Internet. I do hope that you enjoy listening to our Pacific Island music. Favorite Artists

Te Vaka (Opetaia Foa'i)
Original contemporary Pacific music: Polynesian sounds with a modern groove: traditional Polynesian music composed by Opetaia Foa'i. Band members are Tuvaluan and Tokelauan. Check out their excellent and comprehensive Web site at: http://www.tevaka.com

George Telek
Here is a musician who has extended the bounds of traditional Oceanic chants by utilising contemporary western instruments and facilities to enhance the traditional island music of his forefathers.

Xavier X. Fethal
Xavier X. Fethal is an amazing and very talented artist whose music transcends all boundaries in his contemporary interpretations of the beautiful music of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia.

Pat Martinez
Harmonious, enthralling, enjoyable and lively are some of the words that come to mind to describe the music of Pat Martinez, a talented artist from Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.

Bata Teinamati
Bata Teinamati has a rare, unique and haunting voice. His renditions of a wide range of traditional and contemporary music makes him, in my opinion, one of the most talented singers/musicians in Micronesia. He is from the Rupublic of Kiribati and draws his material from a wide spectrum of Kiribati music.

Favorite Albums

Bata Teinamati - The Best of Bata Teinamati
This is a superb album featuring a range of Pacific Island music presented in Bata Teinamati's inimitable style.

Bata Teinamati - Kanenei Kanenei
This, in my opinion, is Bata Teinamati at his best. This album conveys songs of love and of his beloved islands and people.

George Telek - Serious Tam
This is absorbing music featuring instruments and songs of the South Pacific augmented by washes of guitar and treated with studio effects. Telek effectively marries the traditional music of Papua New Guinea with modern Western pop influences. The result is warm and earthy, with the rock trappings and interesting acoustic percussion not detracting from, but rather enhancing, the beautiful underlying traditional harmonies.

Opetaia Foa'i and all band members - Ki Mua
This is one of Te Vaka's great albums and in my view it is undoubtedly one of the best sounds of the Pacific (Polynesia). All tracks on this album are just superb. You can check out my favourite: 'Pate Pate' and their Web site: http://www.tevaka.com

Xavier X. Fethal - Music from Yap, Federated States of Micronesia
Xavier X. Fethal is an amazing and very talented artist whose music transcends all boundaries in his contemporary interpretations of the beautiful music of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia.
