Enhancing economic integration in Northern Peru
Complementing a development priority of the Initiative for the Integration of South American Infrastructure (IIRSA), the IDB has approved a $60 million guarantee to Peru to help finance a road improvement project for the networks linking the port of Paita on the northern Pacific coast to the port of Yurimaguas in the Amazon.

Citizens vulnerable to exclusion from basic services
Undocumented citizens do not exist in the eyes of the government and are therefore vulnerable to exclusion from basic social services. Children may not be able to register for school, families face significant barriers to receiving health care and qualifying for targeted conditional cash transfer programs is equally challenging.

Inviting investors into Latin American expansion
The region is experiencing its best growth cycle in almost three decades, with a promising outlook for 2006, said IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno at the Europe-Latin America Forum in Paris. Moreno encouraged European companies to generate a "third wave" of investment in the region, focusing on exports and technology.
