The snowdrops are blooming!!! Come see the little white beauties in the Bulb Garden and just south of the Education Building east portico. They started blooming on January 29, the earliest weve ever noted.
Several witch hazels are also beginning to unfurl their orange and yellow petals, including the cultivar Jelena in the Dwarf Conifer Garden. When cold weather returns, witch hazels will roll up their petals and wait for the next warm spell. The snowdrops will survive under a blanket of snow, but may be damaged if severe cold returns.
Even on cold days, you can come to see evergreens, ornamental grasses, berries and bark, which can provide interest even on dull, cloudy days. Red-twig dogwood, the green-stemmed Japanese kerria and yellow willow branches really stand out at this time of year.
