Avoiding fat-free rebound: Part Two of a two-part series

Designer fat for chronic pain
CMO or cetyl myristoleate
(see-tulmeer-is-toll-ee-ate) is a fatty acid with a waxy texture. It is a natural
component of sebum, the oily secretion of the human scalp and skin. Because of its waxy
nature, CMO has great surfactant
(surface-active) properties that make it grab and hold moisture. In other words, CMO is a super lubricant. It is the
sebum that covers a newborn's body and helps it slip through the vaginal canal and into
the world.
How does this help anyone with chronic pain? CMO
works on the inside of the body, lubricating joints and any tissue vulnerable to
inflammation. Therefore, CMO
relieves chronic pain in joints, the spine, and head, plus inflammatory conditions
throughout the body. In the past, many of these conditions responded favorably to fish oil
supplements. CMO is much more
concentrated, offering quicker and longer lasting relief.
Before 1995, not many people had heard of CMO.
The scientific work on this material is therefore hard to find.
Dr. Harry Diehl, a scientist at the National Institutes of Health (HIH),first
discovered CMO in the 1940s. This
designer fat was used to protect a species of laboratory mice from developing arthritis.
Some years later, Dr. Diehl prepared CMO
synthetically and cured his own arthritis. He obtained two U.S. patents in 1977 for his
discovery. The first covered parenteral (by injection) application of CMO for inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis. The second
added oral and topical applications.
In the last three or four years, CMO
has gained a reputation among chiropractic, naturopathic, and medical physicians for its
ability to relieve arthritis, improve mobility, and reduce inflammation. Hundreds of
testimonials from patients have generated enthusiasm for this product. It provides fast
and long-term relief, with no side effects. Clinicians emphasize that CMO only works for chronic problems.
How to take CMO
It is important to abstain from alcohol when you are taking CMO because alcohol interferes with its uptake. The
amount doctors recommend varies between 1,200 mg and 4,500 mg per day, depending on the
severity of symptoms. Capsules are taken daily in divided amounts for two weeks. This is
followed by a two-week washout (i.e., avoid taking CMO),
which is followed by another two weeks of CMO
use. In many cases, no further application is needed
