How to play Powerball.
Pick 5 different numbers (white balls) between 1 and 55, and a Powerball number (red
ball) between 1 and 42 for each $1 play. The Powerball number can
be the same as one of the first five numbers on your play line. You can
purchase up to 5 plays on a ticket. Choose your numbers carefully
because Powerball wagers can not be canceled.
Make playing even easier.
Ask your Lottery Retailer for a Powerball "Quick Pick,"
and the numbers for your play will be randomly generated by the Lottery
machine. If you want to play your own numbers, fill those numbers
in on your Powerball Play Slip. Remember to choose 5 numbers in
the top section of each board area labeled "Pick 5" and one number in
the lower (shaded) section of that same board area where it reads "Pick
1." Each Powerball Play Slip contains 5 separate plays or boards.

Match
5 Bonus Prize!
If Powerball reaches a jackpot level of $365 million (the previous
record level of $340 million plus $25 million), part of the prize money
will be used to create a Match 5 Bonus Prize Pool. Then, when there is
a jackpot winner, the money in the Match 5 Bonus Pool will be divided
among the winners who have matched the five white numbered balls. This
bonus value is added to any MATCH 5 Powerball or Powerball with
PowerPlay prize won, and is paid in one LUMP SUM payment. If there are
no MATCH 5 winners, the pool will be divided equally among the winners
of the next lower prize level.

Choose your Jackpot payout.
Jackpot winners have 60
days
from the time a claim is presented at CT Lottery Headquarters to
decide whether to accept their prize as a graduated ANNUITY or CASH
LUMP SUM payout. Winners who do not make a choice within those
60 days will automatically be paid on a graduated ANNUITY payout
basis.
Graduated
Annuity:
The graduated
ANNUITY option pays out
the jackpot prize money in 30
payments over 29 years. Under current terms, if the winner chooses
the graduated
ANNUITY,
the annual payment will be increased each year by four (4) percent.
The following is an example of a graduated annuity payment
schedule,
based on an annuitized jackpot of approximately $96 million:
