The province of Ontario is easily the richest, most populous, and most visited province in Canada. With a population of 12 million, it is home to a third of all Canadians. It has more mineral resources than any other province. It has some of the most fertile farmland in the country, along with the longest frost-free season in which to cultivate it. It has the country's industrial heartland, which produces half of all of Canada's manufactured goods. It has the country's capital, Ottawa, as well as its largest city, Toronto. And it has approximately 400,000 freshwater lakes, covering some 200,000 sq km (70,000 sq miles). It has, in a word, everything.
In almost every sense, Ottawa is the ideal capital city. It is imposing: its neo-Gothic government buildings (Parliment Hill) are set high on a bluff overlooking the Ottawa River. It is beautiful: its many official buildings, bed and breakfast homes and handsome residential neighborhoods share the city with numerous parks, lakes and open spaces, all surrounded by a four-kilometer-wide greenbelt and overhung by clear, unpolluted air. It is cultured: its six national museums, including the Canadian Museum of Civilization and stunning National Arts Centre are only the "official" end of a cultural spectrum that is splendidly varied and impressive. It is cosmopolitan: it is the most compeletely bilingual city in Canada, and it boasts some of the best hotels, bed & breakfast inns and restaurants. And it is fun: the whole reason for Ottawa's existence, the Rideau Canal that sweeps through the heart of the city, is a summer-long haven for boating and canoeing enthusiasts, while in winter it becomes the world's longest skating rink. With a metropolitan population of around three million and an urban area of some 650 sq km (250 sq miles), Toronto stands (and sprawls) as a gleaming, humming rebuttal to those who argue that big cities must inevitably become concrete jungles. Toronto does have a lot of concrete, of course, but it also has over 200 verdant parks. It does have a lot of shiny new skyscrapers, including the CN Tower (the worlds tallest building), but it also has many lovingly preserved old buildings like the Hockey Hall of Fame. It is certainly growing at a rapid pace, but its growth is carefully controlled so that adequate provision is made for housing in any develoment involving new office space. It is large, but it has excellent public transport called the TTC, including a sparkling and efficient subway system. Its schools are good, its cultural amenities are first-rate, its services are efficient, its streets are not only clean but safe, and its citizens are orderly and polite. No wonder people flock to live there. Search for a Toronto Ontario Bed and Breakfast Cottage or Country Inn

Midway between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, the Niagara River Hurtles over a 61-m (200-ft) cliff at a rate of 130 million litres or 34 million gallons each minute, thus creating one of the greatest wonders of the world. Search for a Niagara Falls Ontario Bed and Breakfast. Situated where the Niagara River meets Lake Ontario, delightful Niagara-on-the-Lake is one of North America's loveliest and best preserved nineteenth-century towns. It was settled by Loyalists in the late eighteenth century and, known then as Newark, became the first capital of Upper Canada in 1792. In 1813 it was completely destroyed by the Americans, was quickly rebuilt, and seems to have changed very little since that time. Its attractive situation and pretty tree-shaded streets lined with clapboard and brick houses make it a delightful stopping point during a trip to Niagara Falls.
