Also note that the total length values were derived from the forklength values using the equation TL = FL-B/A where A = .9286 and B = -1.7101. Again this is from the NMFS site.

Estimating the Size of Your Shark

To estimate the weight of a shark you catch, try this method:

Square the girth in inches
Multiply the girth by the length in inches
Divide that number by 800

Note: Measure the length from the tip of the nose to the fork of the tail, not the tip of the tail.
