I began the northStudio.com Inc. Web Designer Certificate Program and 6 month Internship in the fall of 2002. I started with basically no web design skills and medium computer skills.

After my courses I had developed web design knowledge and skill in graphic design but it was the Internship that really made the difference. Working right in the office along side people who have been in the business for years was where I gained the most valuable training. The answers to all of my problems were solved with one question to a team member beside or behind me.

After completing my 6 Web Designer Internship I had the knowledge and skill to get a job in the field or start my own business. After being involved in the business and learning what it takes to excel in this field, I decided to take my training to the next level and enrolled in the Web Application Programming Certificate Program and 6 month Programming Internship. After 3 months of courses I began my Programming Internship, working under the instruction of a programmer with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Once again anything I needed to know was one question away. By the end of Internship I had learned enough through the training and my own hard work to be offered a job as a Web Application Programmer and Designer with northStudio.com Inc.

Some of the project I have worked on are below

LodgingChannel.com – (re-development, data entry, bug fixes, seo, etc.)
northStudio.com – (added many pages, calendar updates, seo)
SchoolVictoria.com - (added many pages, calendar updates, seo)
IMPM.ca – (built forum and many dynamic pages) - still in testing
BuildingTradesBC.com - (entire site except template design) - still in testing
eCommQC.com – (entire site except design of template)
PointNoPointResort.ca – (re-developed all dynamic pages)
BeachcomberCottage.ca – (added all static content)
PreciseTechnologies.com – (updated inventory)
BedandBreakfastSaskatchewan.ca, BedandBreakfastSaskatoon.ca, BedandBreakfastRegina.ca, BedandBreakfastManitoba.ca, BedandBreakfastWinnipeg.ca (webmaster)
Numerous tasks on all 300+ B&B and VacationRental sites in the LodgingChannel family seo, adding content, building pages, graphics, data entry, programming, etc.

I have also updated and managed many web site including:

EslSchoolVictoria.com
SoulHarp.com
VacationRentalsVictoria.ca
OakLaneVictoria.com
RondelVillage.com
TheBletheringPlace.ca
AmbrosiaVictoria.com
AmblesideCottage.com
TwinGables.ca
MotherComputers.com
VictoriaLodging.com

and at least 50 more, there have been so many that I can’t remember them all.

I have also done in home tech support, taught some basic computer courses, an open office course, and provided one-on-one Macromedia Dreamweaver training here at northstudio.com

When I came to northStudio.com six months ago, I knew some programs - I could build a pretty good web site. But I didn't know how to deal with clients to build a real web site in a timely manner that was efficient for both the client and myself.

I found myself spending far too much time on projects that shouldn't have taken so long and under-quoting on projects that would be very time consuming. I was losing money and becoming very frustrated along the way.

I lacked the experience of working within a real web development shop where I was dealing with people that had already been through what I was dealing with and had the expertise from various, diverse areas of business to draw on. I needed to see how it was done, first hand. northStudio.com's Internship program was pretty much tailor made for me.

In the past six months, I have built around 10 professional grade web sites and assisted on a variety of projects, gaining invaluable experience in relating to clients and other members of a team. I've handled everything from simple updates to existing sites to setting up hosting accounts to working on web applications that tie in with other web applications. I have met deadlines and learned how to work efficiently and within budget in the real world of web development while rounding out my existing skills and learning a bunch of new tricks along the way.

Within only six months, I've gone from being proficient with some programs to being a professional web developer with the experience, and confidence, to back it all up. Seriously, from taking the initial phone call to signing off on the project, I've been there, done that; thanks to northStudio.com Inc.

This summer I have had the privilege of participating in northStudio.com's Web Design Internship program. I found the northStudio team to be extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help me succeed. During the three-month program I participated in ongoing client projects, designed several sites independently and gained valuable software instruction from skilled professionals.

I highly recommend the internship program - northStudio.com's unique combination of classroom instruction plus practical work experience proved to be a rewarding opportunity and provided a beneficial complement to my collegiate studies.
