It's really up to you how you choose to define your work schedule. Q) What is a "home based" travel agent? A) The term is most often used to refer to someone who works out of their home office as an outside sales representative for a bonded, accredited ARC/IATAN travel agency, usually referred to as the "host agency." The home-based travel agent finds, qualifies, and books the customer; the host agency receives the tickets and serves as the conduit between the home-based agent and the travel supplier whose product the home-based agent is selling. The home-based travel agent and the host agency share the commissions paid by travel suppliers. Home-based travel agents can work either full-time, part-time or only occasionally. As an independent contractor no one can tell you when to work, how to work, or how hard to work. There are home-based travel agents who earn a nice part-time income and home-based travel agents who earn a substantial middle-class income. Q) What is the difference between opening a commercial agency and becoming an Independent Travel Associate with Abracadabra! Cruises, Inc.? A) Our independent associate program provides you the benefits of being in the travel industry at a fraction of the cost of opening your own agency. Becoming an independent cruise specialist with our agency is simple! Once we receive your signed agreement, the process begins...and you are in the travel business. Q) How do I get my commission checks? A) As your Host Agency, Abracadabra! Cruises, Inc. will send you a check every month. As an Independent Travel Associate, you will book all reservations utilizing our ARC/CLIA/IATAN number. Simply follow the easy procedures outlined in your manual. We'll receive the commissions from the supplier companies, and send you your commission check on a monthly basis after your commission is received at the agency. You keep 50% of the standard commissions! Q) Will I need a computer? Yes, a computer is necessary, and fax capability is suggested. Abracadabra! Cruises is at the leading edge of technology. We utilize the advanced WinCruise reservation system. To use this system you don’t need extensive computer knowledge, just a general working knowledge of computers and the internet. Your computer will need to utilize either Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional as the operating system to access our WinCruise booking system. Q) Can I locate my agency in my existing business? A) Absolutely. Abracadabra! Cruises currently has an Affiliate Program. We offer additional promotional support and assistance for those facilities. Please inquire about this unique program should you have an interest. Travel agencies do very well in insurance agencies, boutiques, real estate firms, grocery stores, dry cleaners, hair salons, tanning businesses, or any retail / wholesale establishment. It is an ideal and creative way to add value to your business and use your current client base to expand your business income. Our Cruise School program is very thorough in guiding you through the development of your new travel venture. The program is proven, precise, and most of all fun! Our materials will give you easy-to-follow, detailed information on how to find prospects, and close the sale. This will jump start your new business. Q) How much is the Cruise School Program A) The cost of Cruise School is $699.00. This covers the cost of your training materials to become a qualified cruise specialist. The program is six full days and includes most meals. Your fees also include your first year of Errors & Omission insurance and your annual agency fees for the first year.
