Era's Restructuring

Era has been flying the skies of Alaska since 1948 and it has no intentions of leaving those skies.  To that end, on December 28, 2005, Era Aviation, Inc. and its owners took a necessary and responsible step to secure Era’s future by voluntarily filing for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. We were forced to take this action as a result of a dispute with our lender.  While Era was not in default of its loan payment obligations, Era and its lenders disagreed over whether certain technical financial benchmarks were met and Era’s lender unilaterally restricted Era’s access to its operating capital.  By filing a plan for reorganization, Era will have the ability to reshape Era into a more efficient and cost-effective airline. We will continue normal business operations throughout the reorganization process.

Now, as always, safety and service to our customers remain our highest priorities. We will continue to uphold the high standard of operational excellence that the flying public has come to expect from Era.

NO CHANGE TO FLIGHT OPERATIONS

Era will continue to operate its full schedule of flights, honoring tickets and reservations as usual, and making normal refunds and exchanges.

We appreciate your loyalty and the opportunity to meet your personal and business travel needs—now and in the future.

Frequently asked questions:

What is Chapter 11?

The phrase refers to the section of U.S. law that allows a company to continue normal day-to-day operations while it develops a plan to reorganize.

Does Chapter 11 mean Era is going out of business?

Absolutely not. Under Chapter 11, we will continue to conduct normal business operations. That includes continuing to serve our customers and pay our employees.  In fact, we expect to be paying unsecured claims 100 cents on the dollar.

How long will Era be in Chapter 11?

It is impossible to predict at this time. Our objective is to utilize the Chapter 11 process as long as necessary to implement a successful plan of reorganization.  Our’s is a unique (and good) situation in that we are mostly current in payments to our vendors.  We have proposals from several prospective lenders who would like to help us in our restructuring, and we will be evaluating those proposals in the course of the restructuring.

Will Era’s flight operations change?

Era will continue to operate its full schedule of flights, honoring tickets and reservations as usual, and making normal refunds and exchanges.  As always, we will continue to evaluate our existing routes and potential new ones, our equipment to fly them, and will make changes only based on sound business principles.
