Free Ringtones - How do I create free ringtones?
This is what we discovered about creating free ringtones:
If you've been looking for a way to make your own free ringtones for your mobile phone, we've managed to find some resources that said cell-phones such as the Sanyo PM-8200 phone will support polyphonic ringtones. These are essentially just MIDI files and thus can't do anything more than notation. Nice, but they can hardly compare with the ringtones that are available for $2.50 apiece from Sprint's site that expire in 90 days. You probably want something of that quality, but without the price or the expiration. Free Ringtones would obviously be best. Here's something that comes close. What we discovered was that those fancy rigntones were in a QCP file format. We also discovered a simple command line application, PureVoice that can convert a WAV file into QCP format. Now the only thing left to discover was how to get that QCP file to the phone. In looking for that, we discovered a Free Mobile Phone Uploader site that will either send a text message with a link to download your file or give you a Jump Code to allow you to download it.
So now you can have any sound you want in the entire world as a free ringtone. Using a little creativity, that can include clips downloaded from iTunes for $.99. The basic steps to do that are listed below
What are the steps in creating free ringtones?
- Purchase the sound for the ringtone from iTunes.
- Convert that file to be used in the free ringtones to MP3 format. You can either burn it to a CD then rip it, or use JHymn.
- Convert the free ringtones file to WAV, shorten it to 30 seconds or less. You can also use Audacity for that task.
- Reduce the sound quality to be PCM, mono, 8 kHz, 16-bit. I was unable to figure out how to do that in Audacity, so I simply used the sound recorder app that comes with Windows.
- Use PureVoice Converter to convert the WAV file to a QCP file (drag the WAV file onto pvconv.exe).
- Upload the QCP file to the Mobile Phone Uploader.
- Download it from that site to your phone and assign it like you would any other ringtone.
What Can I do with additional Free Ringtones for my cell phone?
Ring tones let you personalize your phone's ringer. And, with most of the 3-digit phones, you can assign different ringtones to specific callers in your address book, alerts, or voice mail.
How does a free ringtone get assigned to a specific contact?
There are two ways to assign the free ringtone, the first way is to go to Ringtones on the main menu, select a ringtone and click "Assign." You will then be redirected to another list where you can select "A Contact" and your list of contacts will appear and you may assign the ringtone to a specific contact. The second way is to assign a Nxtel ringtone by going to your Contact list, selecting a contact and clicking "Edit." From there you will see a "Ringtones" field where you can scroll through the available Ring tones. You must have a 64k SIM or higher to assign a ringtone to a specific contact.
