What's Brittany got to offer me while I enjoy my Gite holiday in Brittany France?Brittany has had a varied history, and was mainly populated by Celts who were being forced out of England by the Angles and Saxons, this is why Brittany is called Bretagne and England is called Grand Bretagne (Great Britain). Strong Celtic links remain and many Celtic festivals abound throughout the year, most notable the Interceltic Festival held annually in Lorient. Until the mid 1500's Brittany was an independent state but increasing pressure from France finally forced it to become a part of France. Now Brittany forms about one third of all of France's coastline which means we've got lots of Beaches and Ports, many of which have beautiful medieval architecture and castles. Not to mention some of the finest sea food in the world! Inland Brittany is never much more than 40 minutes from the coast, and gives the added dimension of space, especially in the summer months when lots of people flock to the beaches. Brittany is much more heavily forested than Great Britain, combined with a lack of pressure for building land, Brittany really is a beautiful part of the world, with very little congestion on the roads. Brittany also abounds with some wonderful canals, lakes and rivers, some of which are reckoned to be the best fishing rivers in France. There is an abundance of historical towns and castles here in Brittany, with breath taking scenes around every corner. Please take a look through the leisure sections to help you make the most of your holiday in Brittany, and remember that Holiday Gites in Brittany France are very popular and it seems that every Gite in Brittany gets booked solid for the core summer months of the UK school holidays, so please try and book early!
