Northern California Area |
|
A remote, mostly uninhabited area, it attracts those who search for the quiet solitude of heavily forested terrain, serene lakes and majestic mountain vistas. Hikers, bikers, campers and serious rock climbers are some of those who visit the area in summer to enjoy the views of Mount Shasta and Lassen National Park, the latter of which contains an active volcano. Heavy snows make the region nearly uninhabitable in winter but any time of year it remains a domain most attractive to the most stouthearted outdoor types. By Hugh Jeffries
