Defensive Driving

Defensive driving is crucial to avoiding an accident or any other altercation on the highways and streets. If you are aware of techniques and approaches to better prepare yourself to deal with situations that arise on the roads, chances are improved that you may escape the ordeal
altogether. And if an accident still occurs, your defensive driving may prevent it from being a serious accident.

Defensive driving can mean any number of things including just being aware of what is in your general driving space while out on the roads. The most important area to be concerned with is what is known as your"blind spot". This is the area where a car can be out of the line of site of your mirrors. Typically if the other vehicle is to your right or left and if it's front tire is lining up with your rear tire, there is a good chance this car will be hard to see. Thus, it is in your blind spot.

Defensive driving can also start even before you get into the car. Vehicle maintenance is important and should be checked before even hitting the pavement. Things like brakes, tires, fluids, lights, wipers and more should all be checked regularly. The car should be well maintained to insure your driving experience will not be hampered by any malfuntions or failures.

Braking distance is something to keep in mind while out on the highways especially. An object in motion tends to stay in motion and bringing a ton of metal to a stop can take some time and distance. The faster the vehicle is moving, the longer it is going to take to bring it to a complete stop. Remember to always keep a safe distance from the cars travelling in front of you.
