Antique Bottle Collectors

1. Forum Member Bill Lindsey is responsible fo the Bureau of Land Management's "Historic Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website". It covers all aspects of bottle making, dating, typing (what a bottle was likely used for), closures, and a lot more. It's a great resource and be prepared to spend a day there because the site is totally absorbing!

2. FLASCHENJAGER is German for 'bottle hunter' although forum member Flaschenjager who runs the site comes from Central Virginia. An experienced collector and digger he is often posting interesting pictures of his finds on the forum and helping others with their questions. Old bottles are not the only interesting things he finds while digging as you will see when you visit his website!

Antique bottle collectors3. Forum member John Woodhams is an expert of long standing and a professional digger. He helps fellow collectors on the forum with their questions and shares his wealth of experience with the novice and the experienced collector alike. If you are passing through London in the UK stop by his shop on a weekend and have a chat! His website is a must read if you are thinking of taking up bottle collecting as a hobby.

4. Ed and Mark Runyon's Cape May County Bottle Collectors shows what can be achieved by specializing in a local area. Cape May County is the southern most county in New Jersey and what Ed and Mark don't know about old bottles from there isn't worth knowing! There is also much here for non-local collectors as well, including a comprehensive and regularly updated links page.

5. Codds ¡ìtuff (yes the ¡ì is intentional!) is run by forum member Mark Potten and although the website is not finished yet you can get the complete text by emailing him a nice request. There are over 950 files in the full version and this promises to be the definitive source of information on Hirem Codd and the bottles that followed his 1872 patent.

6. Dumfries Antique Bottle Collecting is an enthusiasts site. It shows what can happen when the collecting bug strikes a family! Forum member David Hiddleston and his Dad describe their early digging exploits and show off their finds from in and around Dumfries.

7. Antique Bottles Of Baltimore is as you would expect all about old bottles from Baltimore Maryland. Forum member baltbottles runs the site which showcases his wonderful collection and relates some of his interesting digging stories. If you find any antique bottles from around Baltimore he would like to hear from you!

8. Forum member diggerjeff suggested Digger Odell's site and it is one of the first places to go to start any research on an old bottle. Digger has answered literally thousands of questions on his site and as a result there is a wealth of information available. He is a prolific writer of books for collectors and ranks among the legends of bottle collecting.

9. The Little Rhody Bottle Club is everything a bottle club should be. They have a monthly online newsletter, a new finds section, a collectors, dealers and sites of interest page, an online book listing of all the currently known Rhode Island bottles including quite a few photos, and a research section covering a number of old RI companies. It makes you wish you lived in RI just to attend the monthly meetings! Forum member dra52 runs the site.

10. The Aussie Bottle Digger is one of those sites where you learn something new every time you visit. Run by Chris Thornton (oz-riley on the forum) there is a wealth of information on the Australian scene and much more which will interest collectors from all over the world. If you are trying to identify an Australian bottle there is a good chance that you will get someway down the road with the comprehensive sections on colors, bases and tops.

11. Reggie Lynch (rlynch on the forum) has one of the most extensive resources on the web. Every collector in the world will have used Reggie's site sometime in their lives and most of us use it quite regularly! Take a look at the newsletters link for current information and to see what's happening in the USA collecting world or just drool over the bottles in Reggie's Hall of Fame. Whatever you are looking for on this site you will probably find it!
