The VR-S/7's high speed, low distortion, and depth of bass was achieved by engineering a very specialized woofer combined with an extraordinary amplifier that is pre-programmed with the required response target.
Spectacular Subwoofer, Unparalleled Performance...
Fast, clean sound requires a very stiff cone that cannot flex and add distortion, a very powerful motor, and a suspension system that will not allow the woofer to continue ringing after the note has ended. We have selected a very strong and large Kevlar-Nomex honeycomb sandwich cone, driven by a four inch voice coil, with a 35 pound magnetic assembly, fixed by an extremely stiff suspension for mechanical braking, all being capable of 2" peak-to-peak excursion. In short, this is a world-class driver that can provide very high volume levels of extremely clean sound!
To enable very high output levels at low frequencies, we specified an ICEPower®module1000A driven Class D amplifier with high current MOSFET output devices producing 1000 watt rms and 2000-watt peaks. This amplifier is 86% efficient which enables cool and stable operation. Electronic pre-equalization allows for smooth bass response down to 10Hz, while maintaining relatively small air volume.
The cabinet is composed of two inch thick MDF with two inch thick vertical and horizontal shelf-bracing, along with a three inch thick baffle, eliminating resonance and coloration. Cavity resonance is eliminated through the use of one inch thick foam and felt lining all interior walls. Premium locking castors elevate the down firing woofer off the floor, enabling 360 degree dispersion, which helps reduce standing waves by providing differing path lengths to the room boundaries.

The 100 mm voice coil is aligned in the gap with a double-thick spider and is driven by a 35lb. magnet assembly to provide an extremely high Force Factor. Stiff suspension prevents oscillation and overhang. Power handling is enhanced by rear vented design and high temperature voice coil wire, enabling 2000-watt peak program material.
Amplifier: Switching design with ICEPower®module1000A circuit and high current MOSFET output devices. High bias Class A operation in the preamp section, Class D output section. AC power is selectable between 117V and 230V. CE approved for Europe. Unit includes removable IEC heavy-duty power cord and auto shutoff with green/red LED.
