The summer driving season is here. That means a lot more driving and traffic, which usually translates into more accidents. To try and cut down on the extra dangerous car-truck accidents Mack Trucks has sponsored a program called "Share the Road" that goes on the road to teach motorists how to driver safely around large trucks.

Truckers are professional drivers with more training than the average drivers and are typically not the cause of traffic accidents between a car and a truck. Statistics show that about 75 percent of all car-truck accidents are caused by the driver of the car. And 35 percent of the accidents occur in the trucks blind spot. Many of these accidents are fatal. As part of the "Share the Road" program, Truckers take drivers on ride-alongs to teach them about truck blind spots and truck stopping distances.

Take Care Around Trucks in Traffic

If you have never driven a large truck like an 18-wheeler you may not know how the trucks handle. An example of a dangerous maneuver is to pull to closely in front of a truck. If you suddenly have to stop the truck may not have the require stopping distance resulting in a collision. Getting rear ended by an 18 wheeler can result in a very damaging accident.

Stay out of Bind Spots

A primary cause of accidents between cars and trucks is blind spots. Pay close attention when you are behind or next to a truck. Many trucks have signs that tell you when you are in their blind spots. If the trucker can't see you then you are in danger.
