Alaska Bear viewing
rivers in Katmai
The 4 rivers in Katmai park that we
photograph and view brown bears, support Alaska’s most abundant fish populations. They include
resident Leopard Rainbows, Arctic Char and Grayling with runs of all 5
species of Pacific Salmon during the long summer season. The main
diet of Brown bears in Katmai is the sockeye salmon as a mature bear can eat
100lbs a day of salmon during the peak runs.
Each guest will be allowed
to catch a few fresh Salmon to take home and enjoy . If you would like to enjoy
adventure and solitude on a wild river with unrestricted
fishing and bear viewing time as part of a small group this trip is for you.

Travel to
Katmai Park for Bear viewing trips
Travel
to this part of Alaska is simple as Penn air and Alaska Air have
flights to King Salmon departing Anchorage Daily. You will need to make
arrangements with Alaska Wilderness travel or your local travel agent to
arrive in King Salmon the day before your trip and stay over at the Quinnat
Hotel. On the day of your trip, usually on Sunday morning between 8-10am a
representative from A.T.A. will meet you and get you ready for your 30 minute
charter flight to the lake outlet, with Branch River Air in one of their
meticulously maintained Dehavilland Beaver Floatplanes. The charge for this
charter is $150 per person, this covers your rd trip travel.
Most
guest's will fly to Anchorage from there home and if time permits fly
directly to King Salmon all in one day. Some guest's may have to stay over in
Anchorage and catch the 8am morning flight to King Salmon with Penn air.
At the end of your trip we will return you to the local airport in King Salmon
where you catch a return flight to Anchorage arriving in the late
afternoon.
Due to the commercial airline schedules, many guests
may wish to stay over again in Anchorage or King Salmon and catch a morning
flight back to there home airport.
Weather
while on
a Alaska bear Viewing Trip
The
weather in this part of Alaska is fairly stable during the summer season,
although it may vary from mild rain to high winds. The average daily temperatures range
from 50-60 degrees, with many real nice days reaching the mid 60-70's.
Everyone should pack and dress accordingly in layers of Polar fleece with a good
rain and wind shell as the outer layer.

Charlie---The
food, lodging, boats, guides and scenery were all outstanding.
Or did it just seem that way because I experienced the hottest
rainbow action of my life on the Alagnak? The sockeyes, big
grayling, and a couple of lakers added variety, too. I'll
recommend your operation to anyone who loves fish or view Alaska
Brown Bears in a wilderness setting and dislikes
crowds.
