Cruise Ship ModelsCruise Ship History
Before the age of air travel, people seeking overseas travel had to make the trip by ship. The options were limited to small ships, which were very hard to travel any great distance for the average passenger, or the newer, and much larger Cruise Ship, referred to as Ocean Liners or Passenger liners, which routinely made trips across the many oceans. The most common voyages were transatlantic crossings from New York to London.
Age of Ocean Liners
You can still visit the original terminal at Tilbury Docks, just east of London, and imagine the hustle and bustle of a bygone era. It sits humbly on the tide flats of the Thames, surrounded by the smoke stacks of the city. It was from here that the grand Queen Elizabeth ran continuous service to New York. In this golden age of ocean liners, ships such as the Lusitania, Normandie, and the Queen Mary, were sailing the high seas. Every vessel had a unique personality, history, and enough passengers to keep companies financially afloat. But it was an age that would eventually come to an end.
Famous Cruise Ship
Likely the most famous cruise ship in history, RMS Titanic, become known for a tragic loss of life during a ship wreck. The sinking of the Titanic has been written about as both books and movies alike.
