5K run and Big Tex mile

The 5K Run and Big Tex Mile is an annual fun walk-and-run held the first Saturday of the 24-day State Fair of Texas. Benefitting the State Fair Scholarship fund, 2005 marks the fifth time the event has been staged.

The course runs through Deep Ellum and the Lower Swiss Avenue neighborhoods; this year's race site has moved to Exposition Plaza, adjacent to Fair Park at Exposition and Canton.

Proceeds benefit the State Fair Scholarship Fund, established in 1992. To date, more than $1.6 million in college scholarships have been awarded to students who participate in the State Fair livestock shows and to outstanding graduates of four Fair Park-area high schools: Lincoln, Madison, North Dallas and Woodrow Wilson.
