  GCI Local Phone Features 

GCI offers many calling features that add convenience and enhanced service at the lowest prices. GCI is the first to introduce selective features, which let you give specialized treatment to calls from selected phone numbers. For rates and adding features to your phone line, please call GCI Customer Service.

Anonymous Call Rejection

Rejects calls when callers use Caller ID Block Service and sends them to an announcement.

To Activate

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *77 (1177 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for confirmation tone.

4)  Hang up.

To Deactivate

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *87 (1187 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for confirmation tone.

4)  Hang up.

Caller ID

Displays the name and number of incoming calls on a special display phone or Caller ID box. 

Instructions

1)When you receive a call, wait until your phone completes the first ring.

2)The name and number associated with the call will appear on your display.

3)If you choose to answer the call, the name and number will remain on the screen until you or the caller hangs up.

Note: Caller ID requires a display unit or phone with built-in display. If "out of area" appears, the caller is in an area that doesn't support the service.

Caller ID on Call Waiting

Displays the name and number of incoming calls on your Caller ID unit display, while you're on the line.

Instructions

1)While on a call, you will hear a different Call Waiting pattern-a higher pitched tone, a pause, and then only one regular sounding Call Waiting beep.

2)The name and number associated with the call will appear on your display.

3)Follow the regular Enhanced Call Waiting feature instructions to handle the call.

Note: Requires Caller ID and Enhanced Call Waiting features and special Caller ID unit with this capability. This feature makes the regular Enhanced Call Waiting signal sound differently.

Call Forwarding

Forwards calls to any phone number you like.

To Activate

1)Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)Dial 72# (1172 on a rotary dial phone).

3)Listen for dial tone.

4)Dial the forward-to phone number.

5)Advise someone at that phone number you will be forwarding your calls. Or, if no one answers or the line is busy:

   • Hang up the receiver.

   Within 2 minutes, repeat steps 1-4.

   • Listen for confirmation tone.

6)Hang up.

To Deactivate

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial 73# (1173 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for confirmation tone.

4)    Hang up.

 

Follow Me Call Forwarding

You can call forward your phone to another number without having to be home to do it.

To Activate

1)Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)Dial 868-0080 to access Follow-Me Call Forwarding Service.

3)Listen for instructions to dial the phone number that you want to activate Call Forwarding on.

4)Confirm the number you just entered.

·         If the number is correct, enter your PIN (Your PIN is issued when you sign up for service. Call GCI if you don't remember it, 265-5400)

·         If the number is incorrect, dial 0 and repeat steps 3 & 4.

5)Listen for instructions and dial Call Forwarding activation code, 72#.

6)Listen for announcement which states the service you activated.

·         If the service is correct, dial 1.

·         If the service is incorrect, dial 0 and repeat step 5.

7)Listen for instructions and dial the telephone number where you want the calls to be forwarded.

8)Confirm the number you entered.

·         If the number is correct, dial 1.

·         If the number is incorrect, dial 0 and repeat step 7.

9)Hang up.

To Deactivate

1)  Follow activation steps 1-4.

2)  Dial 73# (1173 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for announcement which states the service you deactivated.

·         If the service is correct, dial 1.

·         If the service is incorrect, dial 0 and repeat step 2.

4)Hang Up.

Enhanced Call Waiting

Signals incoming calls while line is in use.  Cancel Call Waiting prior to calls you don't want interrupted.

Instructions

1)  If you hear a tone and you want to end the first call, hang up.  Your phone will immediately ring with the second call.

2)  If you want to stay on the first call, quickly press and release the switchhook.  The first call will be put on hold and you will be connected to the second call and can switch back and forth between calls using the switchhook until you or one of the other parties hang up.

To Cancel Call Waiting

Before placing a call:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *70 (1170 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for three short tones and dial tone.

4)  Dial the phone number you wish to call.

5)  Talk with the party.

6)  Hang up. Call Waiting service is activated again for subsequent calls.

During a call:

Note: This requires Three-Way Calling or another switchhook service.

1)  While on a call, quickly press and release the switchhook.

2)  Listen for dial tone.

3)  Dial *70 (1170 on rotary dial phone).

4)  Listen for three short tones.

5)  You will automatically be reconnected to the existing call.

 

Continuous Redial

Continue to try a number within your local calling area if the number is busy or if there is no answer the first time you dial it.

Instructions

1)      Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)    Dial the number you want to call.

3)    Upon hearing a busy signal press the switchhook and release it quickly listening for a special dialtone. (If you've already hung up, pick up the handset and listen for normal dial tone.)

4)    Dial the code *66 (1177 on a rotary dial phone)

5)    If the number is still busy, handg up and your phone will automatically check the number for up to 30 minutes.

6)    A call back ring alerts you if the line becomes free.

7)    When you lift the handset, the call will automatically be dialed.

8)    Remains active for 30 minutes or until deactivated.

To Deactivate

1)    Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)    Dial *86 (1187 on a rotary dial telephone)

3)    Listen for confirmation tone or announcement and hang up.

 

Intercom

Intercom service allows you to speak with another individual using telephone extensions connected to the same line.

Instructions

1)      Lift the receiver and listen for dialtone.

2)    Dial your 7 digit telephone number, and listen for slow busy.

3)    Hang up the receiver.

4)    The other telephone(s) on that line will ring. Ringing stops when another individual picks up the telephone.

5)    Lift your receiver and the connection is established.

 

Last Call Return

Automatically redial the number of the last incoming call, even if you didn't answer it.

Instructions

1)      Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)    Dial *69 (1177 on a rotary dial telephone)

3)    Wait on the line and it will automatically dial the last number that called you.

4)    If the number is busy hang up and your phone will automatically check the number for up to 30 minutes.

5)    A call back ring alerts you if the line becomes free.

6)    Remains active for 30 minutes or until deactivated.

 

To deactivate

1)      Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)      Dial *89 (1187 on a rotary phone)

 

Multi-Distinctive Ring

Assign up to four phone numbers to a single line, with a different ring for each.

Call GCI Customer Service to request this service, 265-5400. Once GCI sets it up, there are no further instructions to use it.

Ringing Patterns:

1st number: normal ring

2nd number:    2 short rings

3rd number: 3 short rings

4th number: 1 long ring; 1 short; 1 long

If you have Call Waiting, the tones follow the same pattern.

Per Call Block

A standard feature on every phone that prevents your name and number from displaying on others' caller ID units.

Instructions

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Press *67 before each call (1167 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen for confirmation tone.

4)  Dial the number you're calling as usual ("private" will appear on the other person's Caller ID unit).

Per Line Blocking

Prevents your name and number from displaying on others' caller ID units, for every call. To unblock your line for individual calls, press *82 (1182 on a rotary dial phone.)

 

Selective Call Acceptance

Create a list of telephone numbers from which you are willing to accept calls. List size 15 numbers.

To Activate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *64 (1164 on a rotary dial phone).

3)    Listen to instructions which tell you:

·         Whether the service is on or off.

·         How many numbers are on your list.

·         How to turn the service on or off.

·         How to add or delete numbers from your list.

4)  When finished, hang up.

To Deactivate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *64 (1164 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions.

 

Selective Call Forwarding

Create a list of phone numbers that you want forwarded to another number. List can include up to 15 numbers.

To Activate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *63 (1163 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions which tell you:

·         Whether the service is on or off.

·         How many numbers are on your list.

4)  Listen to voice instructions which will ask you to enter, confirm, or change the number to which the calls will be forwarded.

To Deactivate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *63 (1163 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions.

 

Selective Call Rejection

Sends calls from selected numbers (up to 15 numbers) to an announcement.

To Activate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *60 (1160 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions which tell you:

·         Whether the service is on or off.

·         How many numbers are on your list.

·         How to turn service on or off.

·         How to add or delete numbers from your list.

To Deactivate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *60 (1160 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions.

Selective Distinctive Alert

Calls from selected number (up to 15 numbers) ring differently.

To Activate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *61 (1161 on a rotary dial phone).

4)    Listen to instructions which tell you:

·         Whether the service is on or off.

·         How many numbers are on your list.

·         How to turn the service on or off.

·         How to add or delete numbers from your list.

4)  When finished, hang up.

To Deactivate:

1)  Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  Dial *61 (1163 on a rotary dial phone).

3)  Listen to instructions.

 

Speed Calling

Program up to 8 or 30 dial codes for most frequently called numbers or access codes.

To Set-Up Speed Calling List:

1) Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)  For Speed Calling 8, dial *74 (1174 on a rotary dial phone). For Speed Calling 30, dial *75 (1175 on a rotary dial phone).

3)Listen for dial tone.

4)Dial the 1- or 2-digit code you would like to program.

5)Dial the phone number or the access code that you want to program.

6)Press #.  Listen for three beeps and dial tone.

7)Repeat steps 2 through 6 for each number you want to program on your Speed Calling list.

To change numbers programmed in your Speed Calling list, just follow the steps above.

To Dial Using Speed Calling:

1)Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)Dial the 1- or 2-digit Speed Calling code for the phone number or access code you want to call. (Speed Calling 8 uses 2 through 9. Speed Calling 30 uses 20 through 49.)

3)Press #.

4)The phone number or access code will be automatically dialed.

Three Way Calling

Connects you with two other parties at different numbers by calling both parties or adding another party to a call in progress.

1)Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.

2)Dial the phone number of the first person (Party A).

3)To add another person (Party B) to the call, quickly press and release the switchhook.

4)Listen for dial tone.

5)Dial the phone number of Party B.

6)At any time after dialing is complete, quickly press and release the switchhook to connect yourself, Party A, and Party B.  (If Party B is busy, quickly press and release the switchhook to disconnect Party B.  You will be reconnected with Party A.)
