Overall Fishing was Very Good

This week’s fishing report from Spotted Tail, updated 11/06/05 The lagoon system is getting back to normal, a wonderful thing. On Tuesday Ron Novitsky joined me on Spotted Tail. I wanted to do some scouting in the Mosquito Lagoon, and asked Ron to come along. The water is beginning to drop, and it's also starting to clear up. We didn't have very good weather, it being cloudy and windy, but I managed to actually eyeball a half dozen reds and caught one (slot sized only) of a new jighead from Tru Tungsten, with a DOA CAL tail. Ron stooped to spin fishing for a short while and between us got six or eight trout on the TT jig and a DOA Shrimp. Rain threatened and we bailed out right before it started. Thursday I fished PFC James Tickal, home on leave from Iraq, and his father Gary, a neighbor of mine in Oveido, in the Mosquito Lagoon. Sight fihing was tough because of the clouds. I wanted James to have a good day, and the fish certainly cooperated. The guys had a jinx thing going though, and missed strikes and lost hooked fish like no one's business. We were using 4' DOA CAL jerkbaits with Woodie's Rattle hooks and a small spinnerbait from Blakemore. The fish were all over them until about 1 PM. We ended up getting three reds to 28' and one slot trout, still not a bad day. Click this link http://www.spottedtail.com/TodaysBlogandThisWeeksFishingReport.htm to see a photo. Friday Mike and Cathy Marston drove up from Fort Meade. Unusual for my fishermen, Mike chose to use an Ambassadeur. I rigged him up with a 5' DOA CAL jerkbait on a Woodie's Rattle hook. Mike got his first fish five minutes after I shut off my outboard, and caught and released one on his last cast of the day. We had shots at sighted fish steadily, all day long, and he ended up releasing seven or eight, a fine day by any standard. All fish were in the slot. No trout were caught or seen. With the water level dropping and the water clearing, kayak fishing may soon be practical again. Upcoming Events- -I will be tying flies at the International Fly Tying Symposium in Somerset, NJ on November 19 and 20. December- -I will be appearing on Mel Berman's radio show WFLA AM 970 Tampa from 6-9 AM on December 3. January- -I will be giving a talk about fishing the Indian River Lagoon system and signing books at the Orange County Public Library in Orlando on January 8 at 2 PM. Remember- life is short. GO FISHING! Life is great and I love my work!! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me at spottedtail@spottedtail.com, or call at 407 977 5207.
