Gulf Air Sky Nanny service wins innovation award

Internet Epoch | Home Live | Look Faq |

Gulf Air's innovation was recognised when the world's first Sky Nanny received a commendation at the 2004 Gulf Marketing Review Marketing Effectiveness Awards in the Best New Product launch category.

The unique Sky Nanny service provides qualified professional attention and care for young Gulf Air passengers from the moment of boarding the flight to the end of the journey. The Sky Nanny service is part of a larger programme for children

Every Sky Nanny is a fully qualified member of the in-flight service team, dedicated to delivering specialist care for children up to the age of 12 travelling with their parents or as unaccompanied minors. This includes keeping children entertained and fed, giving parents a breather.

Development of this enhanced in-flight childcare service was undertaken with the world famous Norland College, one of the foremost establishments in the world for childcare and education.

The Sky Nanny service is part of a larger programme for children introduced by Gulf Air in 2003 including upgrading the children's menu to include new and healthy options, as well as 'tooth friendly' snacks and drinks.

"We are delighted that one year on the Sky Nanny is still receiving this level of recognition," says John Butler, Vice President Marketing and Sales at Gulf Air. "We are particularly pleased to receive this award as it focuses on the effectiveness of the work that was done to launch Sky Nanny as well as the tangible benefits of the service at every stage of a journey within our network, whatever the age of the passenger. Sky Nanny is now firmly entrenched in a suite of in-flight services which cater to the individual needs of our customers."

I am thinking of applying through an Internet nanny service. How does this work?

Internet nanny services are a relatively new entry to the nanny employment market. The first and largest such service is 4nannies.com

Working with an Internet nanny service generally goes like this:Internet nanny services are a relatively new entry to the nanny employment market

  • You fill out an online job application. These tend to be extensive. Usually you need to upload a photo - try to have one available on your computer in jpg format, less than 30K in size.
  • You are encouraged to download and complete a complete employment application to have available for families. You should have a list of all references assembled at this time. It is best to have on your computer, so you can email the information to families.
  • The Internet nanny service does not personally prescreen families; rather they have families fill out an extensive questionnaire about their position, their family and the salary and benefits offered. You can view these positions online, and you contact the families directly per the website's instructions.
  • You may be called or emailed by the family. At this time you should be prepared to ask them to confirm their position (hours, duties, salary and benefits, living accommodations if applicable), to describe themselves and their children, and general child rearing philosophies. You in turn will be asked many questions by the family. Personality match between nanny and family is VERY IMPORTANT! If you don't click, the contact may be dropped there.
  • You pass the initial telephone interview. The family may wish to arrange a meeting if you live locally or may make arrangements for you to come and spend a few days with the family if you live a great distance away. OR they may make you a contingent offer of employment.
  • The family will generally order a background investigation from a private investigative agency to check for various negative facts about your background, including criminal records. 4nannies.com includes this check in the family service subscription.
  • You and the family will negotiate your work agreement, or contract. Don't be afraid to think for yourself and express your needs - this is a negotiation and usually there is some give and take on both sides. DO NOT COMPROMISE ON ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS! You deserve a fair wage, benefits, and a written work agreement.
  • If you are living at a distance, the family may arrange your transportation to their home to begin work.

We recommend that you make some scheduled time after the first week and again after the first month to meet with your employers. It is important that they have the opportunity to provide you feedback, and for you to be able to formally address any questions or issues. This prevents misunderstandings from festering and starts the relationship off in the right direction.

Nanny Service

A nanny is far more involved in helping to raise children than a babysitter, but usually stops short of performing Mary Poppins miracles. In households where both parents work, the nanny not only provides daily childcare, but also helps with household chores ?from escorting the kids to doctors?appointments to picking up the dry cleaning.

References and background checks are a must. Take this seriously: there is a good chance that some of your clients will be spying on your employees with nanny cams?and the like. The last thing you need is a nanny who loses her temper, and lands your and your business in court.

Since many nannies drive kids to soccer practice or other recreational activities, be sure that each employee has a valid driver's license...

What to Expect as a Nanny

As a nanny, your time and attention will be devoted to the children - nanny service

We Sit Best is a nanny referral service. We have placed many nannies since 1984. No fee is ever charged to our job applicants.

Our clients are professionals who work in the Fresno/Clovis area or the surrounding communities in the Central Valley of California.

These families are looking for full-time or part-time nannies. The majority of our nannies are live-out. However, often a live-in nanny may be needed. Live-in nannies salaries include room and board. Usually a separate bedroom is provided.

Your salary is worked out between you and the family. Usually a nanny earns $8-10 per hour. Your salary will depend on your childcare experience and education.

Most nannies work 5 days per week unless other arrangements are made with the parents. Also, some families do travel and take their children with them. You may be asked to accompany the family on these trips.

As a nanny service, your time and attention will be devoted to the children. However, you may be requested to do light housekeeping tasks relating to the children such as picking up toys, general straightening of the house, children's laundry, preparing meals for children and other responsibilities discussed between you and the parents.

Midwest agency branches out

By Anne Mitchell

Published by news-press.com on August 15, 2005

Pam Pollock is exporting her Midwest Nannies agency to Fort Myers Beach.

Pollock, 53, is opening Midwest Nannies Florida this month and hopes to be up and running in September “with 50 to a hundred nannies on call.”

Her recent purchase of a condo here prompted the decision to branch out. She thinks Southwest Florida will embrace a child care business with a Midwest image.

“You get a lot of visitors from the North and Midwest, which is why I kept the name because it has good connotations: safe, hardworking people, honest, friendly. And it’s true,” she said.

Also, some of her Illinois clients visit this area and will use her services while they’re here, Pollock said.

Pollock has operated a nanny agency for 11 years in the St. Charles area of Illinois. She plans to cater to vacationers who want someone to watch the children for a few hours, as well as those who need a nanny to live in or live out for a week or a month or more.

“We are going to concentrate on hotels and Realtors” to offer the nanny service, she said.

“I expect it to be more of a baby-sitting service,” she added.

Midwest Nannies Florida will wear golf shirts with the company name and phone number on them for easy ID.

They’ll make $11 an hour for taking care of up to two children if they have infant CPR certification, and $10 an hour if not.

Midwest Nannies Florida will charge clients a daily agency fee. Clients will pay the nanny direct.

Nanny service saves time on child care

Business offers parents help with short- and long-term care

By CHRISTEN DEMING, Staff writer
First published: Wednesday, August 17, 2005

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Wendy Daniels says she's got relief for time-crunched parents.

Daniels, a Gansevoort resident, recently founded the Saratoga Nanny, a child care service that arranges both short and long-term care arrangements.

Barbie Brindisi of Saratoga Springs, who was looking for a nanny for her 7-year-old son Louis, heard about the Saratoga Nanny through the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. After Brindisi filled out a questionnaire describing her son's needs, Daniels placed 18-year-old Corey Pritchett with Louis.

"She's so great for him," said Brindisi. "She brings toys and introduces him to new games."

Pritchett, who's been Louis' nanny for about a month and a half, takes her charge to the park and teaches him new games. Louis said his favorite activity with his nanny is going to dinner and a movie at Reel Meals in Congress Plaza.

Daniels decided to start the child care business to provide a reliable service to residents and out-of-towners. Daniels requires her approximately 30 nannies to be certified in CPR and first aid. Each nanny carries a first aid kit to their jobs.

Half of Daniel's nannies, who are all female, are college students or teachers looking for summer work. "The more credentials and experience they have, the more it puts the parents at ease," said Daniels, who also runs a day care business. The Saratoga Nanny can also provide a sitter the same day a parent calls.

Daniels said her service can save time for parents looking for a baby-sitter. "It takes out the screening process," said Daniels.

Fees vary based on the nanny's experience, placement fees and the amount of time a parent needs a nanny. The nanny rate is between $9 and $12 per hour. To get an exact quote, call 587-0479 or see http://www.thesaratogananny.com.

Deming can be reached at 581-8438 or by e-mail at cdeming@timesunion.com.
