The Manele Bay Hotel

This hotel is on the privately owned, 141-square-mile island of Lanai, which has fewer than 2,800 residents, less than 30 miles of paved roads, and no chain stores. Scuba sailing, winter whale-watching, and deep-sea fishing are popular activities, here. Amenities include eucalyptus steam rooms and red-cedar saunas. There are several themed gardens on site: Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, bromeliad, and Kama'aina.
The Lodge At Koele

This luxury hotel frequented by golfers and couples is located in Lanai’s upcountry, where temperatures are 15 degrees cooler than at the beach. Across the front porch of its plantation-style main building, guests watch the sunset from wicker easy chairs with upholstered cushions. Inside, two fireplaces flank the Great Hall. On the ground floor, the music room with its own fireplace is filled with collectible instruments and a selection of CDs. Grounds include a 1-mile path that winds past an orchid house, gazebo, and Japanese garden; croquet lawns; stables; and an archery and sport-clay shooting range.
