Buying printing from brick & mortar or Web based printers?

I am a printer. I have worked in the field in all phases for over thirty years now.

The digital revolution definitely has changed things. If you are computer literate enough to create your own designs then I would say to go the web route. There are many places on the net that offer great prices as well as help in putting together your product.

I personally like designing my own stuff and enjoy the great price difference that web-based printers can offer. On the more complex jobs ie; four color, photo cards, web based printers can print a job for less than I can do it myself.

On the other hand if you are one who wants a say in the job in every phase. You want to check things out every step of the designing and printing process, then perhaps the brick and mortar would serve you best.  Keep in mind this route usually involves dealing with artists, salesmen and production managers. I'd do my homework but don't get too pushy, they are professionals too.

Either way no company ever got big without printed products.  Business cards are the most important as they are usually the first thing the prospective customer sees so be sure they reflect your business in a quality based professional light.
