Tips to Make Your Packing Even Easier
- Put heavy items in small boxes. Use SMALL boxes...they are much easier for you to handle, but use no more cubic area of storage.
- Label boxes so you can find what you need, and put frequently used items near the front.
- Don't use newsprint to pack anything that could be stained by the ink.
- To avoid rust, wipe metal objects like tools and bikes with machine oil.
- Store appliances cleaned and dry.
- Leave refrigerator and freezer doors ajar.
- Pack books flat, in SMALL boxes with books or papers on skids or pallets to prevent moisture absorption.
- Clean and store clothing, curtains, and drapes on hangers.
- Dishes and glassware boxes should have a layer of padding on both top and bottom, and each item should be wrapped in paper.
- Nest bowls and cups, and stand plates on end. Fill all pockets with padding.
- Stand sofas and mattresses on end on a pallet or plastic sheet.
- Disassemble beds and tables and put them upside down on the floor.
- Stack boxes on dressers and use drawers to store delicate items.
- Stack light chairs seat-to-seat for storage.
- Save and use original holiday decoration cartons.
- Wrap large lamp bases in padding; pad smaller lamps and put them in boxes.
- Pack delicate lamp shades separately.
- Pack mirrors, windows, and record albums on edge.
