History Landmarks:
The classic colonial sandstone architecture of buildings such as Parliament
House is an impressive sight along visitors' walking tour -- just simply roaming
around the city centre by foot. Close to the city centre, there
exits the Theatre Royal founded in 1837 which is the still operating oldest
theatre, and the Anglesea Barracks established in 1814, the oldest military
which is now used by the Army and welcoming the public inspectors.
Besides those historical landmarks, there are also the criminal courts
and penitentiary (1834) as well as St. David's Cathedral and Franklin Square
which are close to the city centre. Don't forget to visit the suburb of
Battery Point for its unique history!
