Pubs & Bars
You will not be disappointed to visit pubs
like Knopwood's, a snug and popular pub, Irish Murphy's, and the Customs
House Hotel for a casual drink or a fun night out. A relaxed meeting
spot overlooking Victoria Dock are offered by the Atrium at the Hotel Grand
Chancellor while the Shipwright's Arms in Battery Point has been serving
sailors and locals since the early 1800s. An authentic theme pub is
always a great place to call in for a drink. Go ahead to Sandy Bay and
Nickleby's which is a tapas bar open until late. To look for everything from tinkling piano to day and night sport, visit the numerous
bars of Wrest Point Casino!
Live Music
Tasmania is a home state of many singers,
songwriters, artists and bands. One of local talent supporters is the
New Sydney. The Republic in North Hobart has poetry readings and other
literary events, plus live music while the nearby, queen's Head and Trout
Bar offer music gigs - sometimes with interstate artists. Jazz lovers
shouldn't miss the Temple Place which is becoming Tasmania's jazz
home. But for some of the best free music in town, roam around the
length of Salamanca Market. Whoever wants to catch a star but having
small budget should watch out for gigs at the University of Tasmania.
As well, the Derwent Entertainment, home to extravaganzas and the Wrest
Point Casino's entertainment complex which offers great entertainment are
really big names.
Nightlife
Round midnight Syrup starts pumping techno and house
music till late while the nearby ICQ offers all styles of music depending on
the night. Don't forget to drop into Club Surreal on the way out to
Sanday Bay. Once at Wrest Point - play the tables and dance the night
away at Regines or have a drink at the Boardwalk or Birdcage bars.
Gay & Lesbian
Hobart is now a proud community of gays
and lesbians. A Gay and Lesbian Visitor Guide is available at the
Visitor Information Centre. Cumquat, Mit Zitrone, Rockerfellers and
Lebrina are a few eating places. Head out and enjoy a night out at ICQ,
Syrup, La Cage, or T42.
