Weather Summary - Elaine Yang
Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, March 08, 2006. Two low pressure systems over the Four Corners and Central Plains will slowly progress eastward and become the major weather maker over the next few days. Light to moderate snowfall will continue across the Four Corners and parts of the Rockies, spreading into the central High Plains in the afternoon. To the east of the Colorado Rockies, there will be a threat of moderate to heavy snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Farther east, a warm front will be responsible for the widely scattered showers and thunderstorms across the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley and potions of Ohio Valley. Rainfall rates and coverage will slowly increase throughout the day, covering much of the central U.S. as the storm system intensifies and gathers more Gulf moisture. By early Thursday, the associated warm front will reach southern Great Lakes and New England.
Out West, another round of moderate to heavy coastal rain and mountain snow is anticipated across the Northwest Wednesday and Thursday as a potent Pacific system drops southeast into the region. Light rain will begin to develop, starting from the extreme northwestern Washington and then work its way down to Oregon coast in the morning. As the associated warm front approaches late Wednesday morning, moderate to heavy rains will begin to fall over Washington Coast first. Then, the Cascades will see heavy snow falling in the afternoon. With time, the rain and snow should extend eastward into the Intermountain West and parts of the Rockies Wednesday night and southward into Northern California by early Thursday.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a low of -10 degrees at Saranac Lake, NY to a high of 94 degrees at Wink, Texas.
