Tower of Power Subwoofer

The Tower of Power Active Subwoofer system has been designed to provide a very high level of clarity in addition to deep bass (-6dB@16Hz anechoic) at high output levels. The thin wall-hugging design enables easy location in any room and utilizes wall loading to reinforce extremely deep bass frequencies due to room gain.

The transient response of ordinary subwoofers is often poor since 12"-15" woofer cones are too heavy to respond quickly to fast signals. Large diameter woofers suffer from cone flex which further muddies the sound quality. For these reasons, the Tower of Power utilizes twin 10" woofers with double thick polypropylene cones impregnated with carbon makes for a rigid and lightweight combination. As well as higher speed, the twin woofers can dissipate large amounts of input power due to high temperature voice coils wound on Nomex fireproof formers. This results in high volume levels with reduced distortion. This is important since the custom designed amplifier by Bob Carver of Sunfire is capable of 2600 watt instantaneous peaks and can put out 800 watts r.m.s. into a four ohm load all day long without overheating or distorting.

An active electronic circuit monitors the cone motion (via the back emf signal) to provide much better linearity than a passive system. This "electronic servo control" provides very tight tracking of the signal, resulting in very clean bass. Bob Carver’s unique circuitry also includes an excursion limiter to prevent the woofers from bottoming on frequencies below 10Hz, a compressor circuit which prevents amplifier clipping, and a voice coil over-temperature monitor. The result of these impressive circuit advancements and the unique high speed woofer system is truly  tight bass! Single set of five way binding posts are solid brass with gold plating, and can not be stripped or broken. Can be ordered with CE binding posts.

Solid hardwood endcaps are available in dark red cherry, natural cherry, natural oak, and black laquer oak. Grill colors are black, off-white, or desert sand.
