VR-10
For those seekers of the Holy Grail wishing to
create the illusion of live musical performances in the home, Albert Von Schweikert
presents the unlimited-performance class VR-10 five piece speaker system.
This is the ultimate system, utilizing the
finest design concept, drivers, cabinetry, crossover parts, and wire. Three years in
development, the VR-10 is a cost- no- object research project founded in the study of
psychoacoustics. With a frequency range of 10Hz to 50,000Hz and a weight of one ton,
the VR-10 achieves it’s sonic perfection by the use of twenty exotic drivers
and computer designed resonance control.
The VR-10 consists of four towers, each weighing 500
lbs. Two towers are transmission line subwoofers with 18" Kevlar coned infrasonic
drivers capable of responding to 10Hz. The main towers each utilize two- 10" Kevlar
midbass drivers, four-4.5" Kevlar midrange units, two- 1" ceramic domed mid-
tweeters, and a 4" ribbon supertweeter. These state-of-the-art drivers are arrayed in
a concentric fashion in order to achieve a point source radiation pattern, necessary to
achieve a sonic hologram. These drivers are the finest and most expensive units available
in the world and are housed in a cabinet that is not only exceedingly beautiful, but
totally non-resonant as well. Wall thickness varies from 1" to 4", depending on
the location. This is the most inert cabinet ever constructed.
Kevlar has been chosen for the drive unit membranes,
since it has one of the highest Young’s Moduli available (weight to stiffness ratio).
Our four midrange drivers per tower offer three times the Acceleration Factor of competing
systems which use two 6" plastic cones per tower. In addition, our use of twin
ceramic tweeters combined with an exceptional ribbon supertweeter ensures that the VR-10
has the highest definition of any speaker available, extending to 50,000 Hz. In
combination with the MIT capacitors and Audio Magic solid silver wiring, the treble detail
is also smooth and musical, unlike competing "analytical" systems.
The subwoofer towers are blended to the main towers
with a supplied electronic crossover. This unit is used only to drive the subwoofer
amplifiers at 50Hz and below, since the main towers are driven full range. In this manner,
the signal is kept as pure as possible. The crossover contains level matching as well, so
that any brand or type of amplifier may be used. We recommend 200 watts per channel on
both the main and subwoofer towers, with solid state being preferred for the subwoofers.
Dimensions of each tower is 74" tall, 16"
wide, and 24" deep. System impedance is 4 ohms. Power handling is 1,000 watts rms per
tower. Warranty is 20 years.
