I took out a loan with Sonic Payday and have since defaulted. I tried to do the right thing and make payment arrangements with them. I was advised by a Ms. Phillips that they do not make arrangements. I offered to send 250.00 on an original loan amount of 500.00. She advised me to go ahead and send it Moneygram (which I did) and the very same day they withdrew 688.00 from my bank account, which was the full original amount. This has caused all sorts of small charges to bounce (incurring over 500.00 in NSF fees!) and is not at all what she agreed to. I spoke with a Mr. Morris this morning who stated that they may(!!!) be able to refund the 250.00 overpayment this week, but is unwilling to provide a letter to the bank stating that they overcharged me. What do I do?

Report them to your Attorney Generals office and to the consumer protection offices in PA & DE. Be sure to put all details in, about the agreement, payment sent and provide a copy of payment sent and include about the overdraft charges they incurred for taking the whole thing out after agreeing to a $250.00 payment.

Thanks! I am beginning to think that i may need an attorney. I have had too many payday loans to count, and as someone else has stated, I have paid many of them 2 or 3 times over. I cant believe that I didnt pay attention!

It's easy to get into the payday loan trap but hard to get out of. Many of us can attest to that on this forum. But promise yourself that you will stay way from these places in the future. Please file complaints as suggest by mom of twins. I have as well because I am dealing with them currently myself. They are a hard company to deal with. Also check to see if they are licensed to loan money in your state with the division of financial institutions. Remember to send mail to sonic via certified mail with return receipt request. It will only make your case stronger. Sooner or later, they will be investigated in the US.
