Denise and Stanley Gerhauser, and Staci and Robinson Usagani caught 1 ono and 1 mahi and some aku and shibi
|
We got a 7:00 start after Scot had to put in a new starter in the morning as the starboard engine did not start, on this day of 10 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We got an ono strike on the ledge and Stan got to reel it in, a nice one about 25 pounds. Then we got a small mahi in the blind. A while later we lost a blind mahi strike. At the buoy we caught an aku and a shibi and ran them live. A nice marlin came in and looked at them both and did not get excited enough to eat one, bummer. Then a mahi ate the live aku and jumped and came off. Back in the harbor only Stanley was up to eating an eyeball. These were some fun folks to fish with. Aloha Capt Rusty

The Yamagiwa clan Wayne, Stephen, Howard, Marty,and Andrew caught 4 mahi and some aku and shibi
|
We got going at 5:00 on this day of 15 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We got a mahi in the blind on the way there, then caught some aku and shibi at the buoy. No fish got interested in our live baits so we set up and trolled away and took another mahi in the blind and got it. Then we found an open school and got one mahi out of it. A while later we got one more mahi in the blind. We saw some whales just out side the harbor. In the harbor all these guys ate fish eyes with only a small amount of hesitation, I like it. These guys did a good job on these fish. Aloha Capt Rusty

Sue and John Hamm caught 5 mahi and some aku and shibi
|
We got underway at 5:00 on this ady of 15 mph variable winds going to my next favorite buoy. We got a mahi in the blind on the way. We only got some small aku and shibi at the buoy and set up and trolled outside. We took another mahi hit and got it too. Then we found a few open schools and got 1 in each of them to end up with 5. We saw some whales on the way in, they put on a good show. These folks did well reeling these fish in. Aloha Capt Rusty

Jeremy, Jami, and Henri Bisson caught 13 mahi for some fun
|
It was 5:00 when we left on this day of 20 mph trades going to a different buoy. We took a triple on our first pass and got all three, second pass we took a triple and got 2, third pass we got one. We baited but got none, we jigged but only got one aku, so we set up and trolled. Under an iwa we took a double and got both of them, then one more in the area. We found some small floating objects but nothing holding fish. Back at the buoy we got 3 more to end up with 13, all on lures, we got not one fish on bait today quite unusual. In the harbor at least Jeremy and Henri were up to eyeball ingestion. It was a fun day of trolling. Aloha Capt Rusty

Stefan korzeniowski, and Ryan, David, and Robert Mora caught 51 mahi and some aku and shibi for a super good day
|
It was a windy rainy day of 20+ mph north winds as we left at 4:45 going to my next favorite buoy. At the buoy we got one mahi on our first pass, then baited up 2 more. We got some shibi and only one aku, then went to another bouy. We baited up 3 more mahi there, then headed in. On the way I found a big pile of 5 inch rope floating, it was loaded with mahi. We took a double on our first pass and the water turned blue with mahi following in, so we baited. On our second bait pass they followed so well that every bait we dropped in was eaten before it got 10 feet from the boat. We got over 24 mahi on that one pass, it was as wild as mahi fishing can ever get, the deck was covered with fish. These guys were great there was fish flying in the boat lines going everywhere, every pole had a fish on it for quite awhile. When things slowed down we set up and trolled for onos but only more mahi would bite. This was the best floater we have found in a long time, and it was only 8 miles from the harbor. This group did a super job of reeling all these fish in and they even baited some up and helped with some gaffing too, it was wild wide open action. Back in the harbor I was too busy to offer eyeballs, next time . Great going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Doug and Cody Price caught 9 mahi for a fun day
|
On this day of 20 mph trades we got going at 5:00 going to my favorite buoy. We got one mahi on our first pass, then jigged up an aku and ran it live. Before we could get it back to the buoy a big bully ate it and Cody got it with some help from his dad. Then we baited and got 4 in one pass, that was wild action. Then they quit showing up so we set up and trolled on out. We found and open school and got one more big bully. Then I saw a shark and we took a double mahi and got both. Then we went to another buoy and got one more mahi there and some more aku and shibi. These guys had fun and did great too, good going men. Aloha Capt Rusty

Shelly Lorenz, Doug and Esther Fischer, and Kenny Adair caught 14 mahi and some aku and shibi and we lost one big marlin too.

It was 5:00 when we got underway on this ady of 25 mph trades going to my next favorite buoy. We hooked up a nice mahi on the way and got it, no hits on our first pass at the buoy. We jigged up an aku and put it out live and as usual mahi were all over it and Scot hooked 2 up and we got them. Next pass we got 2 on bait and one more ate our aku and got hooked, they just kept comming. We had a hard time getting another aku, so Scot baited up some small shibi and we ran one live. On our second pass with that live shibi out there a big marlin came in and ate it. It did not jump at first, but after a minute or so it came up and showed itself and ran out 200 yards of line. Doug was the angler and he did a great job of getting this big fish to the boat with a bit of help from Scot in about 45 minutes. Then as it came into view it was not as tired as we would have liked it to be, from 20 yards out it charged the boat, I was trying to get there with the flying gaff but it hit the boat and went right on by jumping all the way. Thanks to Scot hitting the gas it did not pass us up to far and took out 50 yards more and then it pulled the hook, bummer. We are just happy that it did not jump in the boat as it was about a 350 pounder with a bad attitude. Doug did a great job. Back to the buoy and we got a few more mahi to end up with 14. In the harbor only Kenny was up for an eyeball. These folks did great as it was a bit rough today, good going. Aloha Capt Rusty

We left the harbor at 5:00 on this day of variable 10 mph winds going to my next favorite buoy. We were third to the buoy so we jigged and caught some aku and shibi and ran them live, them we hooked a mahi on light line and more followed it in and we baited up 3 more. Then we set up and trolled out to 30 miles out, where we found a current line and caught 2 nice mahi along it. On our way in we took a blind mahi strike and got it too. We saw whales all over the place today. In the harbor both guys ate eyeballs gladly. These guys did a great job all day. Aloha Capt Rusty

The McCarthy family Gina, Joe, Dana, and Joey, caught 17 mahi and some aku and shibi for a real fun day
|
We departed at 5:00 on this day of 20 mph trades going to my next favorite bouy. On the way we caught a 11 pound ulua, and three 8 pound aku. At the buoy we took a double mahi and got them both. Then we jigged and caught some aku and shibi and ran them live. The first aku we put out was eaten off the hook real quick, the next one we caught was mauled on the way in, a mahi followed it in and Scot baited it up. Then a bigger one came around and Scot baited it up and Dana reeled it in, it was a 32 pound bully. Then just about every aku that we ran live was chewed on by some mahi, we got one or two a pass. Then Scot baited up another big bully and Joey reeled it in, it went 34 pounds. We ended up with 17 mahi, and Joey reeled most of them in. These kids did great, and had fun too. Aloha Capt Rusty

Chris Foster, Matt Dzurec, Guy and Tom Eldridge caught 26 mahi and some aku and shibi for a great day of fishing

We got underway at 5:00 on this day of strong 30 mph trade winds going to my favorite buoy. We took a triple mahi on our first pass and got all 3. Then we jigged and caught some aku and ran them live, the mahis were all over our aku and Scot baited 2 or 3 a pass untill we had about 15. Then they slowed down so we set up to troll out and Scot only got one lure in the water and it took off with a mahi. We came back thru the area and took a double mahi, that's when I spotted a small log floating. We baited and got one mahi, then a nice marlin showed up right behind the boat, Scot tossed him an aku and he ate it and took off. It ran for a while then it broke line, bummer. We got a few more mahi and headed in. On the way we found a small rope floating and baited up some more mahi, to end up with 26. In the harbor only Chris and Guy were game to join in the ritual eyeball eating. These guys were great they reeled all those fish in and handeled the rough water real well, they are seaworthy to the max. Aloha Capt Rusty
