Yahoo Personals

Yahoo Personals has the largest membership base (by far) of all the online dating sites. They also match up couples anywhere in the world which is nice if you are outside of North America.

It's free to browse and free to setup a profile so people can find you as well.

My Review (last updated January 17, 2005)

  Posting Personals Ad
Yahoo is much like a traditional dating service, just brought into the 21st century. Posting a personals ad is pretty simple. It's broken down into 5 steps... About You, Your Match, Title & Description of your ad, Photos and Conversation Starters. Once you have everything as you like, you can Preview your ad and Post it. For people looking for Gay/Lesbian matches, Yahoo Personals offers this as well (many other services do not).

With thousands of personal ads on Yahoo Personals in every area, you can get very specific on the Matches you want, and you will still get hundreds of results. Yahoo Personals is generally a good site, but by far the best thing they have going for them is the sheer number of members they have. No one wants to join a dating service with no members, right?

  The Matches
Again, the membership base of Yahoo is where they really shine. You will always find a a ton of matches no matter how specific you make your matching criteria. The matching results are given in a clean, easy to navigate format, which makes browsing your matches (including photos very fast).

Something that I find kind of funny about Yahoo Personals is people posting fake ads. There are entire websites dedicated to finding fake Yahoo Personal ads and tracking down where the photos really come from. Many times people post their pictures as porn stars or supermodels. I wonder how well that would go over if you think you are going to meet a supermodel for dinner and it's not her. :)

  The Price
Yahoo Personals is about average as far as pricing goes. The longer term you signup for an account, the cheaper it is. Their pricing ranges from $8.33 - $19.95 per month (depending on how long you sign up for). As of this writing, I have not seen any promotions or coupons available for Yahoo Personals. But just in case one ever does pop up, I've set up a Yahoo Personals Coupons page for those readers that would like to check to see if Yahoo Personals has any coupons or promotions currently available.

  My Thoughts
Yahoo Personals has a general feeling of a bar scene. It's a free for all kludge of personal ads. If you are looking for a quick date based on appearances, it's a good place to start. If you are looking for something more serious, I would suggestion that eHarmony is probably a better choice.

Because of the positive feedback I've gotten, this domain is going to be acquired from Eterniti Records and turned into an in-depth review site to cover all types of different websites as well as an interactive user forum so users can report their own personal experiences with various sites. The current ETA on deployment is early April.
