Florida's Zero Tolerance

Florida's Zero Tolerance, Know the Rules

Life is not fair but by age 15 or 16 you should already know that. In this case it's a good idea to apply special rules. As a young driver you are at risk of making a mistake that could cost you or some other inocent person dearly. So here is what you need to know about zero tolerance in Florida, note that many states have similar rules.

You Cannot Drink any Alcohol and Drive
Florida Drivers under the age of 21 with a blood alcohol level of .02% or more will have their license immediately suspended for six months. This administrative action is for a first offense; a second offense will result in a one year suspension. Refusal to submit to testing (first offense) results in a suspension of twelve months; eighteen months on a second offense.

.02% is described as "Mellow feeling, slight body warmth, less inhibitied". Make no mistake. One drink can easily put you at .02% and put your driving on hold for six months.

Calculate Your BAC (Blood Alcohol Content)
If you've been wondering what point of all that high school math is here is a good example

The Unversity of Oklahoma created an easy to use Blood Alchohol Content Calculator

Plug in the number of drinks, the type of drink, your weight, and the elasped time BAC calculator instantly tells you your BAC Level. It also provides an Analysis of your current condition.

.02% is described as "Possible Impairment" which means your car is going in the garage for at least 6 months.

We don't mean to be judgemental here but if you drink even a swallow of any alcohol and get behind the wheel you're dunce.

Facts on Tap has an easy to understand Blood Alcohol Table that puts this all in black and white.

If have a drink get a ride from someone who has NOT, call our parents, or just stay where you are.
