Serving Sizes

Serving salmon steaks is easy. In almost all entrees, 1 steak per person is customary. And for fillets, about 1/3 to 1/2 pound per person is a good portion size.

Storing and Thawing

To thaw fresh-frozen salmon steaks, place them in refrigerator for a day. Because they are vacuum-sealed you can also run cold water over sealed fillets or steaks to speed up the thawing process. Quickly rinse salmon prior to preparing it. Left-over salmon should be refrigerated and used within a couple of days.

Portion Sizes

Our wild Alaska King salmon fillets and steaks are fresh-frozen and individually vacuum-sealed for your convenience. They can be stored in your freezer for several months. Fillets are boneless, and range from small 1/3 lb portions to 1 lb packages. Full-size fillets are often available during the summer months as well. The large steaks range from 1/2 pound to over a pound each, and are cut at 1" thickness.

The Cook Inlet is a rather large body of water that stretches up into Alaska. It was first discovered by Captain James Cook, the famous British explorer. It's east banks are bordered by the Kenai Peninsula where dozens of fishing ports are located from Homer to Anchorage. There are many fishing districts throughout this region with all five types of salmon running through the inlet.

Fishing Seasons

The main king salmon fisheries are during the early summer months, while smaller spring, winter and fall fisheries exist as well. In recent years, Alaska fishermen have began catching salmon with care, being careful how salmon are handled and "icing them down" to keep the salmon as fresh as possible. Alaskan salmon are caught in the wild, not farmed.
