Mark Tamayo began his career behind the scenes in 1996 as a weather producer at KRON 4 with the Morning News. His first on-camera position was in 1999 at KVIQ in scenic Eureka, California as the morning and noon weather anchor. From there Tamayo went to KSBW in Salinas, California as the weekend and fill-in weather reporter. In Salinas he also explored the lovely beaches of Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay.
It was in January of 2002 that Tamayo returned home to KRON where he is currently the weekday weather producer and on-camera meteorologist for the weekend newscasts. Tamayo has received the Television Seal of Approval from both The American Meteorological Society (AMS) and National Weather Association (NWA).
Tamayo earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a second Bachelor’s Degree in Science (Meteorology) from San Francisco State University. He was born and raised in the Bay Area, and is still happy to call the North Bay home. As the proud Uncle of five nieces, Tamayo spends his free time surfing, running, snowboarding, and generally enjoying the weather.
