In the 1930's, America was a troubled nation. A paralyzing depression extended from coast to coast.
The chilling effects had reached San Francisco as well. But the city was also looking to its future.
Two of the great bridges of the world were completed. The Bay Bridge came first, then the Golden Gate.
Treasure Island was the scene of an international fair.
Joe DiMaggio, a baseball star from North Beach had become the latest hero for the New York Yankees.
But there was another celebrity from San Francisco who captured its heart and soul.
His name was Seabiscuit and his story is one of 'rags to riches.'
Seabiscuit's early career was marked by failure and rejection.
That would change in the summer of 1936 when three men converged and altered the course of racing history.
Jockey Red Pollard... Trainer Tom Smith... Owner Charles Howard.
Together, they would make Seabiscuit a champion and a legend.
