Cubs 7, Angels 6
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Jeff Weaver struggled again for the Angels, and the Chicago Cubs beat Los Angeles 7-6 Thursday.

Weaver allowed five earned runs and nine hits in four innings. He was the Angels' top free agent acquisition in the offseason after going 14-11 for the Dodgers last year.

This spring, Weaver has given up 16 earned runs and 21 hits in 10 1-3 innings over three starts. The Cubs scored four times in the opening inning.

"I got the ball down in the zone after that first inning," said Weaver, who said he isn't concerned about the rough spring so far. "It's more about feeling comfortable physically and mechanically."

Cubs left-hander Rich Hill, vying for a spot in the rotation, allowed five hits, two walks and five earned runs in two innings.

The Angels tagged Hill for four earned runs over two innings in his last start.

"I think overall it was pretty poor," Hill said. "It wasn't a very good outing. I think that one of the things that needs to be improved on is just the attitude of going out and getting after it."
