House approves emergency spending bill
Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

CAPITOL HILL The House has approved a 92 (b) billion dollar emergency spending bill that provides money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and hurricane recovery.

The overwhelming vote of 348-to-71 came despite concerns about the mounting costs of the wars and the hurricane recovery effort.

South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson says concerns about the deficit and spending are overridden by the "urgent issues" of supporting U-S forces and helping hurricane victims.

Several longtime anti-war Democrats strenuously argued against the bill. Ohio congressman Dennis Kucinich said he wouldn't support one more dime for the administration's "ill-conceived, ill-advised, misguided and failed Iraq policy."

The bill provides more than 67 (b) billion dollars for the wars in iraq and Afghanistan.

Another 19 (b) billion dollars will help in the cleanup and rebuilding of the Gulf Coast after Katrina struck last summer.

The Senate is expected to act on the bill early next month.
