About Us

The father and daughter team of Terry and Mandy Farmer are
the people who run Accent Inns. This is not one of those huge chains, run by distant shareholders that only value the bottom line. We have values, all right, but they're more like family values. The room you'll stay in will be spotlessly clean, the bed really comfy, and the staff is friendly. You're going to feel at home here.

We don't do things the same way as other hotels. In our restaurants, for example, you get a great meal in a pleasant atmosphere at a fair price. Imagine. We don't charge for local calls. Parking is free. So is the morning paper, and email in the lobby kiosks. In the winter we'll warm you up with free cookies and hot chocolate. In the summer we drape our hotels in hundreds of hanging baskets. We like flowers so much we give away flower seed postcards to our guests on check out.   These are little things, maybe, but our guests tell us they
make all the difference in the world.

  Accent Inns' Commitment to Community

            Small Company;  Big Difference

We can all make a difference.  It is a core value at Accent Inns where building business and building community go hand-in-hand.  Properties in five British Columbia regions (Burnaby, Kelowna, Kamloops, Richmond and Victoria) work with a broad cross-section of individuals and groups to paticipate in community-based activities that emphasize making a difference in people's lives.

Initiatives vary by location and include food and clothing drives, donations to homeless shelters, the Salvation Army, the United Way and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, among others.  For instance, Accent Inns-Vancouver Airport supports the Richmond Special Olympics Association by collecting pop cans and bottles throughout the hotel and delivering them to the Association on a weekly basis.

Across the Province, need is growing in every community while resources and government funding are shrinking.  It is increasingly apparent that to make steps towards change companies, big and small, must partner with a charitable organization to meet their needs and best use the resources available.  We feel that it's all part of living and working in a community you care about!

Accent Inns launched two initiatives in 2003 that provide tangible benefits to local organizations:

InnAid

Innaid is an annual "spring cleaning" event held from January through April that contrubutes needed items to charitable organizations across the province.  Accent Inns management, staff, friends, family and corporate partners contribute to each community in a meaningful way by donating items that have been identified as a high-priority need such as linens and furniture to local charities. Our 2006 InnAid Program supports

Salvation Army - Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops

Developmental Disabilities Assoc - Burnaby & Richmond

Boys & Girls Clubs of BC partnership

Accent Inns believes in creating healthy environments and opportunities for youth as the future of the province.  for over 100 years, Boys and Girls Clubs have been guiding young Canadians towards a responsible, fulfilling and productive adulthood by engaging them in activities that challenge and enrich their minds, bodies and spirits and nurture their self esteem.  Our support of the Boys and Girls Clubs of BC provides opportunities for kids to explore their province, through club exchanges and educational field trips to museums and galleries that would otherwise be beyond their reach.  In addition, kids are able to develop lasting relationships with Accent Inns' management and staff during career exploration days and skills development workshops.  Each Accent Inn works closely with their local Club to meet specific needs such as travel for sporting events and volunteer recognition.

Other organizations that we provide support to:

  • Salvation Army
  • The United Way
  • Whitecaps Soccer
  • Vancouver Canadians
  • Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival
  • Field Hockey Victoria
  • Minor sport organizations throughout the Province
  • Shriners Care Cruiser Program

And finally, Accent Inns is also committed to doing our part for the environment.  In all areas of our operations we look to lessen the impact on our environment, while still providing our guests with a quality experience.  Our current recycling program, which involves our guests, includes Blue Boxes in every room and a Towel Saver program that reminds guests they have the option to reuse their towels. In addition, our used soap and shampoos are recycled into soap flakes and detergents under the Buffalo Manufacturing brand.  Our laundry is washed with completely environmentally friendly detergents, and whenever possible, we use environmentally friendly cleaning products and energy saving devices throughout our operation.
