Serre Chevalier, France - ski resort review
Serre-Chevalier
is, in fact, composed of 13 villages spread along the Guisane
valley, the main ones are Monetier, Villeneuve and Chantemerle.
Each village is different, some of them are traditional and the
others modern but they all share the same skiing area which stretches
along the valley. The skiing conditions are excellent for
intermediates and beginners, and there is plenty of slopes for
advanced. Each town is served by a good lift system and it is
easy to move between the resorts.
There is a great potential here for everyone, not just for the
accomplished riders. It is the place that the visitor will appreciate
also as a beginner and will get the most out it. It has a large
number of gentle, safe and very well-kept slopes to practise
the turns and plenty of well connected, long, wide and smooth
pisted trails for the more advanced beginners and intermediates.
The resort has a very well-organized and developed main
lift system that ensures access to the best piste terrain.
That guarantees any level of freerider to reach smooth and long
runs effortlessly. Serre-Chevalier has earned the respect of many
good skiers. Very good ski school and decent childcare provision
may particularly attract families but not only. The resort has
always benefited from a very good snow record and it also has
its own micro-climate.
Serre-Chevalier is also a very pretty place that benefits from
an abundance of chalet style buildings rather than high
rise concrete blocks. The town has undergone much development
with great nightlife to go with it. Apres ski is relatively
quiet and concentrated in the bars and restaurants but there are
also discos and a cinema.
The restaurants serve good local food, but a car is a good
option, because it allows the visitors to try each village's eateries.
Serre-Chevalier is not chic but it does have a very French atmosphere
which is really appreciated by everyone. For those who enjoy going
to nightclubs and lively bars there is plenty to keep them amused,
but also those who prefer a quiet beer shouldn't worry because
there are many lovely older town quarters with bars that offer
live music and really diverse apres snowboard.
