Courmayeur, Italy - ski resort review
Courmayeur
is the Italian opposite to the French Chamonix. Not only is it
situated next to the Mont Blanc, but is rather a spot of alpine
climbers to skiers. Anyway, it still is one of the most popular
Italian skiresorts. 100 km of well done trails, strictly Italian
atmosphere and certainty of good snow conditions - these are the
best characteristics of the spot.
Amateurs of good sights will definitely appreciate the view of
the Mont Blanc and adventure-seekers hire a guide and take a tough
tour to the Chamonix Valley. The presence of the Gigante glacier
ensures of good snow conditions and allows to try skiing also
in summer.
Travelers visiting Courmayeur are most often Italians, so the
resort seems to be different from other ski areas of Italy. Although
the Mont Blanc tunnel exists since 1965 and the whole area of
Valle d'Aosta is easily approachable from the French side of the
massif, the majority of French citizens visit Courmayeur only
on daily basis. They hire a guide and come back to Chamonix skiing
the trails of the Gigante glacier.
Wide range of apres ski activities includes: casino (Saint-Vincent
and in Chamonix France); Sport Center with fitness, ice-skating
ring, curling, squash, indoor tennis, indoor golf, artificial
climbing wall. Parapente, snow bike, swimming in Pré- St-Didier
and in some hotels in Courmayeur and La Salle, golf, Adventure
Park for children and adults, walking path on the snow. Activities
with the alpine guides.
Visitors will find a wide range of accommodation options for their
stay in Courmayeur. Lodging of all types and standards is available,
more expensive hotels are in majority here, though.
