Probably the best skicircus of the Dolomites. 350 kilometers of
ski runs, 170 kilometers of cross country routes and the 12-kilometers
long 'Pista Bellunese' beginning at the Dolomites' highest summit,
Marmolada. Add usually sunny weather, extremely beautiful sights
of the mountains and characteristic Italian cuisine and you have
a perfect holiday.
The localities of Val di Fassa offer slopes and activities not
worse or even better than those in Val Gardena. 6 villages of
Moena, Vigo di Fassa, Pozza di Fassa, Campitello, Canazei and
Alba can accommodate around 40.000 visitors. Direct access to
the cable-railways to the slopes is available from Campitello
and Canazei. These two spots are also largest and noisiest places
of the valley. Smaller localities like Pozza or Alba connected
to them by very efficient, free ski-bus transfers. On the other
hand, Pozza di Fassa offers skiing at night and a very good black
trail is located in Alba. Visitors can choose among accommodation
option from **** hotels in Canazei to regular holiday apartments
offered widely in smaller venues.
Arabba is a tiny village with 350 inhabitants located at the
altitude of 1602 meters. Its skicircus offers over 50 km of medium
and difficult runs situated on the Northern slopes, what guarantees
long skiing season. The top station of the cable-railway at Porta
Vescovo (2478 meters) offers a superb view at the 'Queen of the
Dolomites' - the Marmolada summit. A system of skilifts connects
the skicircus Arabba to the bottom station of the Marmolada's
cable-railway, Malga Ciapella.
Marmolada's glacier is open also in summer. Skiers can reach
the summit either by regular cable-railway or by a helicopter
from the village of Alta Badia. The second option gives possibility
of watching amazing sights and is much faster than the traditional
way of getting to the top of the mountains.
The Dolomiti Superski pass works in all areas above, except from
the Marmolada. Those, who get bored with their area's slopes can
try the Sella Ronda- a unique system of skilifts, that allows
users to make a round tour around the Pordoi Massif (Passo Pordoi).
Sella Ronda extremely simplifies transportation between valleys
and skiing areas. An intermediate skier can travel round the Sella
Ronda within 3-4 hours without using the same slope or lift twice.
Thanks to the Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Superski pass, skiers staying
in Val Gardena can easily use slopes of Arabba or Val di Fassa.
