Cuzco Peru city/area tour. 1 day.

On your Cuzco Peru city tour, you will visit the Cathedral, Q’oricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Pukapukara and Tambomachay. We begin this excursion at the Plaza de Armas. In Inca times the plaza, called Huacaypata or Aucaypata, was twice as large as it is today. On the northeastern side is the Cathedral. Construction started in 1559 and took almost a hundred years. It is one of the greatest repositories of colonial art. Q’oricancha, our second stop, in Inca times had a courtyard which was literally covered with gold. The temple walls were lined with some 700 solid-gold sheets, each weighing about 2kg. There were life-size gold and silver replicas of corn that were ceremonially ‘planted’ in agricultural rituals. By bus we continue to Sacsayhuaman. This huge ruin is the most important and impressive one in the immediate Cuzco area. The name means ‘Satisfied falcon’. The Incas envisioned Cuzco in the shape of a puma, with Sacsayhuaman as the head. The ruins of Q’enqo means zigzag, This place has been used for the ritual sacrifice of chicha (Inca beer) or perhaps blood. We pass by at Pukapukara, a small site. We finish our tour in Tambomachay which consists of a beautifully wrought ceremonial stone bath and is therefore popularly called El Baño del Inca.

Excursion Sacred Valley of the Inca's. 1 day.

The beautiful Vilcanota/ Urubamba valley is popularly called Sacred Valley of the Incas. The climate is pleasant here. The most important point of interest in the valley is the city of Pisaq with its ruins and Indian market. We continue our trip trough the valley to Ollantaytambo. After the Inca’s lost Cuzco, they built their new capital in this place. However, they never finished it. So you will find a site in progress and you can learn more from the the building style!

Excursion Moray. 1 day.

It is fascinating to see the experimental agricultural terraces. Different levels of terraces are carved into a huge bowl. Part of it occurred naturally and part of it was further excavated by the Incas. The terraces have different microclimates, depending on their location in the bowl. Scientists believe that they have been use by the Incas to discover the optimal conditions for their crops. There are two large bowls and one small bowl, each ringed by terraces. We also show you the salt mines of Moray. They have been exploited during a 1000 years with the same craftsmanship technique that started more than 1000 years ago!

Museum Tour and folklore show. 1 day.

During this excursion you have the opportunity to visit several museums of different types. Generally they presents objects of religious art from the time of the Colony and also of the pre-Hispanic time. You can visit: Museum of Religious Art, Museum of Archaeology, Regional Historical Museum, and Museum of Popular Art. In the evening we will let you have a taste of typical folklore from the area.
