Pucallpa Information

Pucallpa could be a very interesting place to visit for your Peru vacation, because not many tourists visit Pucallpa. Pucallpa is the capital of the state of Ucayali , located at the left margin of the Ucayali River. It has the most important port in the northern part of Peru. Pucallpa was founded in October 13, 1888. Its name in Quechua means red land, the colour of clay and mud.

The extraction and transformation of timber are the main economical activities of the state. The location of the state of Ucayali is on the central northern part of the Peruvian territory. Location is 860 kilometers from Lima and takes 45 minutes by plane from Lima and vice versa. Main rivers that flow through Ucayali state are: Aguatia River, Tamaya River, Pachitea River, Tambo river, Urubamba river, Abujau river, Calleria river.

Main attractions in Pucallpa: The Plaza de Armas, the square of Public Clock, the school of Amazonia painting Usko Ayar, the house of the amazonian sculptor Agustin Rivas, the Natural Park and the Regional Museum.

Yarinacocha Lake

Lake Yarinacocha is located at 7 kilometers from Pucallpa. The native community of San Francisco located off the shore of the Yarinacocha Lake takes 45 minutes by car from Pucallpa. You will have the opportunity to meet with the people there, who are part of the native tribe of shipibos-cunibos indians. Also you can visit the botanic garden (Chullacchacqui, center of investigation of natural medicine).

Aguatya

Another place to visit is Aguatya located in the province of Padre Abad at 161 kilometers from Pucallpa. Here is a bridge of 800 metes length. You will be impressed by the vegetation and the waterfalls, called the veil of the bride (Velo de la Novia) and the devil shower, being the main attractions. Lago Imiria is a very beautiful lake. You will get there by boat through the Ucayali river and Tamaya river. We make you familiar with the indian rituals and dances. Please be invited to try their typical food and drinks of the native people. It may be one of your subjects when you tell your friends about your Peru travel experience.

Pucallpa is the unexplored pearl in the jungle of Peru. The area around Pucallpa is the jungle in it's purest form. You will meet almost no tourists there. Please enjoy a very different pace of life here. People are very friendly. You can make friends for ever there. We highly recommend to go there, if you are interested in an area of Peru that is authentic and unspoiled.
