It is believed that the first true cat dated back about 12 million
years ago and evolved into 3 major categories: the forest cat,
the African wild cat, and the Asiatic desert cat. Stemming from
the African wild cat, the domestic cat as we know it today was
first enlisted by the Egyptians around 3000 B.C. to protect grains
from rodents. Because of the value of the cat services, the Egyptians
regarded these animals to a god-like status. The domestic cat
of today was a descendent of the Egyptian cats. Part of our cat
collection pays homage to these founding fathers with a nice selection
of Egyptian Bastets.
The first domestic cats were brought to America
by the explorers and early settlers. Over time,
breeders continued to mate those cats portray
their most favorable characteristics in order to
enhance these desirable attributes and the cat has
risen to the status of one of the most popular
domesticated animals in the world. As such, there
is a tremendous amount of interest in honoring our
feline friends with a statue.
