Making Award Travel Reservations

WorldPerks® makes using your miles easy. When you're ready to plan your WorldPerks trip, follow these steps:

  1. Check the award chart to find the number of miles needed for travel.
  2. Ensure that you have sufficient number of miles in your account for the award trip. Check mileage balances online or call the WorldPerks Automated Information Line at 1-800-327-2881. Reservations cannot be made if sufficient miles are not available.
    • If you are planning to redeem miles for WorldPerks Upgrade Awards, please call Northwest at 1-800-44PERKS (1-800-447-3757) prior to making your online reservation to ensure that the fare is eligible for an upgrade award.
  3. Make your reservation
    • Most award travel can be booked and ticketed online at our web site http://www.nwa.com/.  nwa.com offers members an array of award travel search tools to make booking an award easy and no ticketing fee applies to award travel booked entirely online. If the award itinerary requires a Reservations agent, please call Northwest at 1-800-44PERKS*.
    • Award travel reservations for Northwest flights may be made up to 352 days prior to flight departure. For KLM flights, you may make reservations up to 340 days prior to flight departure.
    • PerkSaverSM (formerly known as Standard) Awards are limited and subject to seat availability. Checking availability at nwa.com is a useful way to find space. Increased availability is offered through the PerkPassSM (formerly known as RuleBusterSM) pricing option. 
    • Miles can not be combined with another WorldPerks member's miles or from another frequent flyer program. To redeem miles for a WorldPerks award all the miles must be issued from one WorldPerks account.
    • You may not use the same WorldPerks miles for duplicate award travel reservations. Once a reservation has been made, the appropriate number of miles will be linked to that specific itinerary. These miles will be "locked" and unavailable for additional award reservations unless the original itinerary is canceled, and the itinerary changed or miles redeposited. When award travel is ticketed, the locked miles will be deducted from your account.
    • WorldPerks award tickets are issued at roundtrip travel rates. No open segments are allowed.
    • WorldPerks award tickets cannot be used in conjunction with discounts/coupons/ certificates or promotional offers unless otherwise stipulated in the rules of that offer.
  4. All segments of your trip must be confirmed prior to ticket issuance. Your reservation will be confirmed if seats are available on the requested dates.
  5. To maximize the availability of award seating for all WorldPerks members, Northwest will require instant ticketing of award bookings. A credit card will be required at time of booking to pay for all applicable taxes and fees.**
  6. The reservation may be canceled and miles redeposited into the original account free of charge if the reservation is canceled by the end of the next day after booking (midnight Central Standard Time). Beyond that time, any changes to awards, including changes to dates and times, or redeposits of mileage may be subject to a WorldPerks administrative fee. *Award tickets issued by a Northwest Reservations agent will be subject to a ticketing fee of $15 USD. Award tickets issued via a Northwest airport location will be subject to a ticketing fee of $30 USD. The ticketing fee does not apply to award travel booked entirely through nwa.com. Not all award travel can be booked on nwa.com. The ticketing fee will apply to any tickets which must be processed by an agent. WorldPerks Platinum Elite members are exempt from award ticketing fees.

** You are responsible for paying all applicable taxes and fees (including Customs, inspection, immigration, security, agriculture, facility and departure/arrival charges, any administrative fee, and the September 11th U.S. Security Fee of up to $10 USD roundtrip) and obtaining necessary travel documents for award travel. In addition, a non-refundable fee of $50 per ticket will be charged for passengers who request paper tickets in E-Ticket eligible markets.
