Professional training
The Met Office College offers a wide range of professional training to meteorological organisations internationally.

We also offer professional vocational qualifications (NVQ/SVQ) in forecasting and observing.

Commercial training
Combining scientific excellence with hands-on experience - plus a proven track record in global forecasting - we offer tailored training programmes in the following areas.

Some courses specifically deal with the impact of climate change on these sectors.

It's one thing having access to high-quality weather intelligence; but it's quite another to know the weather inside out, to understand how it affects your operations, and to use these insights to do your job more effectively - whether you're a pilot, highways engineer or professional forecaster.

Our objective in training is to ensure that you can understand the weather better, and carry this knowledge through into your professional life. Delivered by meteorological experts and industry specialists, our tailored courses and workshops are designed to meet your precise needs.

Location and languages

Our courses normally take place in our state-of-the-art training facilities at the Met Office headquarters in Exeter.

Exeter is a small city in the south west of England. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside including the National Parks of Dartmoor and Exmoor. Exeter is served by an airport which offers a rapidly expanding number of flights to a variety of European destinations.

The Office can be quickly accessed from the M5 Motorway and has good rail and bus connections to London. When planning your journey, please allow at least four hours for transfer between London and Exeter.

How to find us

If it is more convenient, and if appropriate facilities are available, shorter courses can be tailored to your needs and delivered at a location of your choice.

All of courses will be taught in English. In order to ensure that students make the most of our courses, they must be able to understand, read and write in English at a high level. For students entering a foundation training programme, it may be possible to arrange training in English prior to the course.
